13tech13 Very VERY useful thread, I have an intermittent P0171 on my 2004 2.3, checked everything, cleaned the maf, changed the fuel filter, spark plugs... but still coming and yes I noticed this smal noise just after the car is hut off so I guess the damn se needs to be changed, already bought the toyota gates one off ebay for $9. I was just wondering if I needed a new gasket kit for the manifold or not. also anything else I may want to change while the IM is removed ?
Thanks in adavance
Seb

exploring/carolina While I had the manifold off, went ahead & replaced the thermostat & PCV valve. Used a scraper razor blade to pry the retainer cap over the tang on the PCV valve. Reused the old O-ring.

Jonaheso Hay dude how did you remove the PCV valve or did you remove it same diagnosis here and I need to change the valve itself.

Used the razor blade on a scraper to pry the PCV collar up & off of the tabs, worked great:

sailor Use the removal instructions ONLY from this thread to replace the PCV.

Jonaheso Alright finally I've got the doggone manifold off and didn't need to remove the egr tube man it was the stupid o rings glued hard on the cylinder head what a bitch! Inspected the PCV hose and sure enough it was done for. Now the pcv valve can't remove it. It' coupled by a plastic cover piece and not a grommet so that's the next headache any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

exploring/carolina Sounds like there is a bolt that needs to be removed on the manifold. Used a wrench to remove the EGR valve.

This link is from earlier in this thread discussing removal of the intake manifold to install a Cosworth manifold. Hope the removal portion will help.

Jonaheso Here's another small problem you said you had an 1" play on it, all I can do is move it slightly from the bottom 8 bolts and this thing won't budge. Now the tube thing playing a big part as well.

Jonaheso I see what you are saying but I don't have 1" or more gap to work that yellow peace I did remove the throttle head to see where the egr tube yellow piece is however if I use a small plyers you think that might work I know exactly what and where your talking about however the manual doesn't specify you even need to mess with this thing and this thing is the only thing preventing me from pulling the manifold off. Again I'm only trying to replace PVC valve and hose here not trying to add more issues to the problem and hay I really do appreciate the responses just wanted you know.
