macdiesel I've been using the Dunlop Direzza's Star spec and an added benefit of street tires is they can be driven in the rain. I'm cheap and want to get the most out of my track days, rain or shine. The Nitto's are awesome though.

Kal-EL428 So basically, the Nitto’s would last me damn near 10 years with my 2 track days per year!!!

It would be ~10 events or 18 to 20 days on track.

However, I just counted the events on my last set and came up with 13 events and 22 days.
May 09 Summit Point 1 day Shenandoah, 1 day Main Course in the rain.

August 09 Watkins Glen 2 days
August 09 Calabogie 1 day
August 09 Mosport 2 days
Oct 09 NJMP 2 days

I normally instruct, so I get to run in any run group and the events I attend at Watkins Glen and Mosport are 40 minute sessions for two of the three run groups.
I probably average 250 to 325 miles over a two day event. At Watkins Glen I've run up to 500 miles in two days when I got a student whose car broke on the first session of the first day. I can't remember how many I drove at the twelve hour event at the Glen.
Last year at Calabogie there was low turn out for the event, so the organizer made the day open lapping. They would throw the checkers every half an hour to give the corner workers a five minute break then resume. I did over 300+ miles that day alone. If they had fuel available on site it would have been more.
The car is a 2004 PWSC SVT EAP five door with the Bilstein coilover kit, a Torsen, stock brakes with Cobalt pads and 215-45/17's on 04 SVT wheels.

My friend in a 97 Cobra runs the NT01's as well and he ran the same schedule. He went through a set of tires over 8 events/14 days.

For HPDE's I don't really notice any issues with heat cycling. The tires do get harder as they age but it is something that you work around. Once I put a new set on you can tell the difference in fresh tires but the old ones work fine if you're not collecting trophies or trying for lap times.
It takes me 10 or so days to get them to the "slick" stage.
The nice thing about the Nitto's is they aren't directional. They have an inside and an outside, so you can rotate the tires to any wheel position.
A friend of mine runs Hoosiers on his SVT and he is much faster through the corners than I am, but he spends twice the money for the tires and gets half the number of events.

I get about 18 to 20 days on track with Nitto Nt01's before cording one.

GodLovesUgly HA, just adding a race tire WILL shave time off your laps..
it hides flaws, but if you're not thinking of going pro, slap them on a separate set of wheels and they will last a very long time if you don't go out much.

Kal-EL428 Interesting point. I had never even considered that before.
I only go to open track days at one track here in Michigan. I know it pretty well. I don’t know how many “little’ mistakes I really make. Though I am sure I make them at every turn.
We are just out for fun, no timers, only in car stuff. I think that the amount of grip from a pure race tire would be way more fun than shaving a few tenths off my lap...
