Mike_Mac it will guarantee that it will go into 1st and you can see if it still grinds 1st. if not you will need to play with it till it goes into all the gears. if it grinds first after doing that then you got more issues.

or get the plate then for uses to center the shifter. (or a 2nd person that can hold it dead center.)

i believe its cable related because your having issues with 1,3,5 so my bet is its not pulling the shift tower far enough. and adjusting it like i said chances are your issue will then be hard getting into 2,4,R. then you need to find a happy middle point, but bad shifter bushings will make that almost impossible

oCancerPatiento So you are saying that I should put it into first gear while holding the adjuster for the gears in. When its in first gear let go of the adjuster and it will be adjusted?

Mike_Mac push the shifter into 1st and pull then trans end into 1st gear let the adjusters go. are you acutally able to move the ends around easily or are they not moving easily. i would push them down and move the end around (should have about 1"ish of movement) then set it. it can take a few tries

if your bushings have alot of slop its going to make it hard to get into gear.

oCancerPatiento I have tried centering the shifter and pushing in the adjusters. It didnt seem to make a difference. Is there a way I can hold the shifer farther forward when I adjust them so the will go farther forward during all the shifts?

Mike_Mac your problem is common if your cables are not adjusted propery. on the trans end you will see these orange tabs. push them in and adjust the cables. if they are all sloppy and worn out i would recommend replacing them before you can transmission damage

Not going into gear all the way??

I just recently bought my 02 zx3. When I bought it the clutch was lightly slipping at hwy speeds and the shifter was as loose as can be. It also would grind in 1st gear from a stop some times. I only drove the car about 75 miles before I replaced the clutch. After driving it I noticed the clutch was not slipping any more but it would still pop out of gear and grind when leaving from 1st unless you hold pressure on the shifter. I soon replaced a bushing on the shifter which really tightened up the shifter. I also ziptied the neutral cable onto the transmission because it was very loose. When I drive the car it seems like the car isnt going into 1,3, and 5th gear fully like it does into 2 and 4. It doesn't grind in any other gears. Also if I go from reverse into first it will grind no matter what unless I shift into another forward gear first. Could the shift fork be bent? I have tried adjusting the cables (which I know are worn). Could I somehow adjust the cables so it goes into the gears farther? I am thinking the transmission is junk and am about to replace it. Please give me any info before I buy the other transmission. Thanks.
