jetrinka Makes sense what you are saying. I think in might have to go do some more research on these things and make a different purchase.

mlbbaseball on a 4 pt, in an accident, when you go forward, you essentially pull the verticle belts up. this pulls the lap belt up and at the same time, can push you down in the seat. as the belts are being pulled up, you get pushed down underneath. i believe scroth put out something like that so you could see it.

as for the standard 3 pts, they are safer cause they can't submarine. when the belts tighten and you go forward into them em iin an accident, the cross belt tightens and therefore tightens the bottom. since the cross belt isn't directly connectec in the middle of the belt, it can't cause lift. this is why they are safe.

watch this vid. it KINDA explains it. notice they use regular 4pt harnesses as well to test, then the scroth. if you don't have an antisubmarine belt or antisubmarining technology, its not any safer than the stock 3 pt belts and in fact could be less safe.

Scroth is the only current belt that is approved for a 4 pt cause of its antisubmarining technology. however, 5 or greater pt harnesses anchor the submarine belt to the floor, so its impossible to submarine.

hope this helps. if you want piece of mind, you NEED either scroth belts or SFI/FIA homogated belts as they will hold you in a high speed accident such as rally or drag or track racing. its what all the big boys used.

before i bought my harnesses a while back, i researched this exact thing. those cheap 60 dollar harnesses you get from sprarco, omp, etc, are not safe. they are for show and are not DOT approved. the ONLY DOT approved belts are Scroth. even Sparco race belts and RCI, GForce, OMP (race versions) are not technically street legal, however, if you got pulled over for it and they are properly mounted, no cop in their right mind will pull you over for an SFI harness cause thats the safest belts you can possibly use.

if you go w/ these belts, they are prolly (and i can't say for sure) a step BACKWARDS in safety.

The harnesses are made by Corbeau.

And I don't understand why a 5 point is needed to prevent submarining when you won't submarine with a regular seatbelt and it doesn't have the "5th" point.

They are the 2" Corbeau 4-point bolt in harnesses.

mlbbaseball well, i hope you got scroth belts. cause any 4 pt. isn't going to prevent submarining unless scroth belts are used. if you are not using quality belts, like 5 pt. 3 inch straps, ur 3 pt stock belt will be better!

as for mounting,

check out here, it shows how the manufacturer wants the belts to be routed. sroll to pg. 44.

unfortunately, the only way ur belts will be safer is if you mount them properly, AND use a 5 pt or greater belt to prevent submarining.

also, what bar are you using? and what straps are you using? i'm assuming a codesvt bar? and i'd be interested in the belts your using too.

Harness and Harness Bar

So I recently purchased one of the harness bars made by Massive and two 4-point Corbeau bolt in harnesses from FSwerks. The car isn't going to be raced. The purchase was more to make myself feel better while driving the car seeing as I haven't figured out how to make the airbags work with the Corbeau seats I have in the car. I figure a harness might do a bit of a better job than just a seatbelt.

Which brings me to my question. How does one set these things up to be the safest possible? I know the shorter the straps can be made the better due to stretching during an impact. And I believe I can basically use the bar to correct the angle from the anchor point over the back of the chair and such so it won't crush me in an impact. The seats have slots in the back for the harness to come through.

Basically, how do you set these up? Thanks
