hi and welcome to the forum. In the future, better to start a new thread than to glom on to an old one.

Before drawing any more conclusions about the temperature sensor, it might be worth your time & $ to reinstall the sensor and then start the engine with the odometer in test mode. To learn about that, click the "Stickied Threads" link at the top of this forum, and then click the "Complete HOW TO" link. Then, scroll down and click "Focus Test Mode". That will cause your odometer to read in degrees Celsius.

With the A/C off, the two fans should being operating in their low-speed mode around 110C and in their high-speed mode around 116C (although if your engine is just idling and the cooling system is working properly, then it should never reach 116C).

FoMoCus This one is for the OP, are you interested in parting ways with that resistor you ended up not needing? I need one, and I'd rather help someone on the forum than go searching for a buy it now listing.

focus1980 my2002 ford focus cooling fans are not working both of them, the fans don`t come on with A/C on,the A/C compressor start for 3 second and stop,when unplug the head sensor both fans start. Can somebody tell me what to do please!

cylenotkyle So if the port where the fuse goes isnt getting power chances are I have a bad port?

whynotthinkwhynot Insufficient feed wiring IMO, and yes, there is an ambient temp factor that affects conductor size. There just aren't enough engineers that realize this.

Agreed - Also, when the resistor fails, it almost always takes out the wiring plug with it b/c the fans come on so seldom that you typically don't notice the low speed fans failed until several months later.

I wonder if mounting the resistor in the fan shroud (High heat) contributes to the problem or not.

whynotthinkwhynot Either method has one major drawback: you fry your fan motors. Those fans don't generally run at all unless the vehicle is sitting still because you don't need fans when you're moving. When you continuously run the fans, then you wear out the fan motors sooner.

My point being- no matter what you do, it is a temporary fix. The longer you leave it like that, the more likely you are to have to spend several hundred dollars for new fans.

Tiger-Heli Okay - first off, the OP fixed his problem - I was just commenting for others trying to run through the same issue.

Second - the low speed fans (both fans) operate through the resistor - but the OP already replaced that.

The high speed fans operate when the A/C is on (and also based on the WOT setting according to the Haynes manual).

Rather than disconnecting the AC clutch, it is probably better and easier to bypass the relay (I think it's the high-speed one - not sure) like this. The fans run (high speed?) all the time when you do this, so you probably don't reach peak operating temperature, but the advantage is that you can still use your A/C.

whynotthinkwhynot Yeah, I told a guy how to unplug his AC clutch and bypass the LP switch so he could get his fan running with no charge and a bad resistor.
