If you have the non-SVT and it is the timing belt, you might not need a new engine. What is the final diagnosis?

focusmaniaczx3 look on craigs list or the iwanna for focus engines. you are seriously getting raped on this deal. you shouldnt have to pay more than $500 for a good motor. i just found a smoking deal on a motor a few weeks ago for $100 with 10k miles. car got hit in the rear and sat in this guys back yard for for like 8 years. it had a tree growing through it. just look around and you will find a deal. take the car to mike at hilbish, he wont steer your wrong.

Any FF Mechanics Near Chapel Hill ???

I need some help fast as the local dealer University Ford has told me I need a new motor for $5300 or a reworked one for $3500. I just found this website yesterday, thank God! My tow truck driver thinks maybe it's just the timing belt. I have no mechanical experience. Here are the details:

2001 ZX3, 60,000 miles! driven very cautiously, NEVER any engine problems. Recently I've smelled something hot, so I checked the oil and the coolant reservoir, which both looked okay. (but this issue was not resolved.) Never have seen leaks.

Car won't start, makes a noise. AAA guy says differential is turning, but must be a timing problem.

University Ford says no compression, intake valves won't close. Says it must have overheated. Quotes me 5300 new engine, or 3500 to go piece by piece on this one. I called Mike at Hilbish in Kannapolis, and he just laughed at those numbers.

Can anyone local help me?
