The stuck ignition key situation recently happened on my 2005 Ford Focus (w/ automatic transmission) ) . I was glad to find out that that I could get the key out by pulling the collar / sleeve up. Can it be glued or taped in the up position ? Can I by bypass the switch (solder some wires together ) vs repalcing the shifter ?

2010 Ford Explorer Key stuck in ignition
I have 2010 Ford Explorer few days ago Key stuck in ignition and did not come out even the car was stopped, gear at parking. For many days I have to lock it with remote but the risk was still there because is Saudi Arabia children may drive my car and may cause an accident.
I searched for solution here and thanks for this forum and youtube videos uploaded I find the solution.
It was very simple, I remove the automatic gear shifter cover, on the right side there is a shifter position switch. I saw a pin came out of it and it was not off even the gear lever was at Parking position. I just pushed the pin inside and the switch start to function. Problem solved and key came out.

I have this problem right now. when i disconnect the battery, it comes right out...but when i connect the battery, i get a long, constant tone whnever the car door is open and key not in the ignition. when i put the key in the ignition, the tone returns to its normal 'door open' or 'headlights on' cycling tone.
Anyone have a picture of this "sensor" I took my console apart, but wasnt sure what i was looking for to clean...

|DrewN||thanks to everyone for your help. I found that the electrical connecter was a bit gooey from some type of soda, cleaned it up and so far so good, the car is back to normal!|

|doobious62||The sensor is inside the shifter column. The screw is a hex screw on the left had site of the shifter knob. Make sure that screw is lined up with the thread hole on the shifter. When the holes line up, you will not the little connectors inside are fully connected.|

Last night i tried popping the button with no luck. Removing the negative cable from the battery did the trick so i think i'm heading the right direction. I'm going to start taking the center consel apart this weekend. Any advice? Where is this sensor/any screw i might need to tighten be located?
