a great roof rack for the ZX3

I bought a Perrycraft Sport Quest sq5550-b roof rack and installed it on my 2005 ZX3 and I think it is going to work really well. It took a few hours to assemble and install, but the thing is very sturdy, looks great, and fits well. It's mounted permanently to the top of the car. You have to bend the side rails a bit by hand to get them to follow the contour of the roof. A great buy and a good option for people who want to carry some things up top. I got the rack because I can't afford a work van, and I don't want to sell the Focus. I'm going to try hauling a ladder or two, and maybe some conduit around town. I bought it off Amazon for just under two-hundred and fifty dollars.

Thanks for the info. Does the Thule rack damage the car in any way? Are any painted surfaces scratched or rubbed. Do you ever remove the rack and reinstall it. I've read that the Thule and Yakima racks are a pain to remove and put back.
i have taken the rack off and reinstalled in once already ...ive had it for abour 3 months and no signs of any damage what so ever....the foot packs have a rubber base that seems to protect very well....and the fit kit brackets are coated in a rubber like material. I found it a little confusing the first time i installed it because the directions were not the best...but it only took me about an hr from start to finish....after that re-installing it is a breeze.

In my honest opinion, the rack from batinc is a better rack for the Focus. It costs less, it's a custom fit, it looks nicer, it's lighter, and it's easier to install and remove than Thule and Yakima, without sacrificing durability or quality.
Thule has custom fit kits also ....

The whole system was a bit pricey

as far as there being a better, lighter, easier to use system...i can not say because i havent used anything else but thule. But i can say i dont have any problems yet, and im satisfied.

BAT INC. Roof Rack a no-go on 2005 ZX5

I just spoke to a representative at BAT Inc. and he says you can not use their rack on a 2005 Focus (ZX3 and ZX5). He said the 2005 Focus models sold in the United States do not have the prethreaded holes as existed in earlier model years. He claims that they tried to mount the rack by drilling holes (ouch!) but the rack did not fit due to changes in the dimensions of the vehicle. He says there are no plans to release a updated rack model in the near future.

schneller ZX3 In my honest opinion, the rack from batinc is a better rack for the Focus. It costs less, it's a custom fit, it looks nicer, it's lighter, and it's easier to install and remove than Thule and Yakima, without sacrificing durability or quality. And Thule attachments mount on it without a problem. I have the Thule fairing and fork mount on my rack.

Just my 2 cents...

mojorisin57 Hey Jumpman23_217,

jumpman23_217 I have a Thule rack system for my 04 zx3...the system for a zx3 or zx5 will be a bit diffrent ...the one for the zx5 will actuallly be cheaper. You need the 400xt foot pack, 2063 fit kit, 50" load bars, and a 872 fairing (if you want ...i think it looks good). That will be your base rack...for a zx3 i had to get the short roofline adaptor since there is not enough spread from the front bar to the rear bar to be safe on a 2 dr car...with 4 drs u can hook one on the front and one on the rear door. Anyways after you have your base rack on....u can put just about anything up there...go to www.thuleracks.com and look for your watersport carrier of choice....keep in mind this is for a '04 ...im not total sure if the '05 is the same. I have a fork mount bike rack on mine and i really like it...i didnt like the price at first but when i realized how steardy and how well it fit spacific to my car it was worth spending the money .

schneller ZX3 I have an '01 ZX3 with the rack from batinc and it is first-rate. The rack itself is from Ford of Europe and, as mentioned, mounts to holes that are pre-threaded. You might want to call the folks at batinc and ask them if it will fit your Focus. Do you have an '05 ZX5? If so, check for the holes. If not, check for them on a ZX5 at a dealer. Is the '05 ZX5 (or ZX3) any longer/wider than its predecessor (I have no idea what the dimmensions are)?

Roof Rack for 2005 Ford Focus ZX5

Does anyone know of a good roof rack for carrying kayaks for a 2005 Ford Focus ZX5? I know about Thule and Yakima but they are expensive, and difficult to remove when not in use. I have read some posts about a rack from BAT Inc. for the Focus ZX3. Will this rack work on a 2005 ZX5? Has anyone installed this rack on a 2005 ZX5 (or ZX3)? If so, do the 2005 models still have a prethreaded hole under the rear hatch filled with body compound like the older Focus models did?
