and what drives the factory tach? why can't you tap into it?

those 2 prices were for ones i found w/ almost exact milage. cheeper ones seem to be harder to find.

SkyPilot an aftermarket tach needs the tach driver there is no way around that to my knowlege. it would be much easier (maybe cheaper too) to find a new cluster and just swap it out and you will have a tach, i did this with mine no problems, HOWEVER the mileage on the cluster stays with the cluster. so if your car has 20k on it and the new cluster has 30k it will read 30k and most dealerships wont reprogram it for you or charge you an arm and a leg to do it. try to find one close to your mileage and swap it out.

$85-$125 is alright i got mine off the Buy-Sell-Trade forum here for $40 so keep looking. and sometimes you can find one on ebay for less than that

gauge cluster swap

ok, i've been told that if i want to put an after market tach in 06zx4 that i need a tach driver. so my question is: if i can swap out gauge clusters and put in a one in with a tach and all you do is swap them out, what drives the factory tach? and why can't you tap into it? is the driver in the cluster? is cheaper and easier just find a used cluster? i've found a couple at a wrecking yard close to here for like $85 - $125, is that fair?

i know, a lot of questions... btw... this is a great community!
