Parking lights:

RonMaiden Parking lights are the amber ones on the front and the rears are just your tails but they can be on with no headlamps thus called parking lamps. Around dusk I'll drive with just my parking lamps and driving (fog) lamps on which is a cool option to have stock,I had to do a little relay jumping to achieve independant control of my fogs in my 4Runner.

Nintendo I dont even know what parking lights are????? In all my years Ive never heard of parking lights...

In Canada we have DRL (daytime running lights) as standard. So those lights are always on.

At night I turn on my headlights.

When stopped for an emergency I turn on my hazards (also called 4-way flashers.)

When I get out of my car and the door is open the interior dome lights come on for a little bit...is this what you guys call parking lights? These lights are a convenience so you can see in the dark to get your keys, etc.

I think that's a style thing that's been perpetuated by magazines and calendars. They photograph those cars with the parking lights on to make something visually interesting, different. Let's face it, we've all seen a Chevelle, we know what they look like. Shooting it at dusk with parking lights on makes it look more interesting. Just my opinion on that.

This. I steer clear of anyone who is oblivious enough to be driving at night with no headlights, because they're clearly not paying attention.

Chris_HT I just drive with parking lights so that very intelligent people sweat and can't sleep at night thinking how I may forgot to turn on headlights at dark :D

I drive with parking lights in good weather because it makes my car easier to spot for others on the road, and I do appreciate when other people do the same because for me it's easier to see em. In bad weather or when it's getting dark I use regular lights.
I use fog lights when I want to show off how nice my SVT is :P

zetecDon The first reason it was probably brought back to life is that someone had voted on the poll which would bring it back to the top.

st12131 I always run with mine on, not so other drivers can see me, but rather so I can get the dash lights on so I can see my gauges. I have 5% tint and its hard to see the gauges most of the time, so I run with them on to see!

Minchkin Mine look like DRLs because of my switchbacks, untill I go to turn. :p So I generally leave them on.

puma1552 Parking lights make a car look more aggressive, muscle cars etc.

Also when a car comes over a hill at dusk, it is MUCH easier to judge distance when it comes over the hill with parking lights on, compared to a car popping over the hill with blinding headlights--it's impossible to gauge distance in a dusk situation like that if the headlights are on. If the parking lights are on, it's very easy to see since there isn't a big washout of light.

I've driven my muscle cars with the parking lights on at all times for 15 years, and I've never not once forgot to turn on the headlights, nor have I ever had a single fender bender or scratch on any of my vehicles. I'd say a bigger problem is manufacturers that have the gauge lights on all the time, whether the lights are on at all or not. I see more Hondas, etc. driving around with no lights at all at night, completely oblivious since the gauge lights are on, than I ever have old cars driving around with the parking lights on after dark.
