2012 Focus SEL blown head gasket?

Engine started knocking 1,000 miles ago, then seemed to blow this evening while driving home. MPG went from 30mpg down to 12mpg over the course of about five miles before the suspected motor blowing. Smoke came out suddenly, and has been smoking ever since (towed home, but had to park the car.)
Note that the engine temp is fine, oil level and coolant levels are fine, but spark plug tips were oil soaked and cylinder 2 spark plug has its tip completely blown off, upon inspection at home.
Is this a blown head gasket?
Will test compression tomorrow...

Thanks for reaching out, Tricia.
The mileage is roughly 83k, and I had the vehicle towed home. I've been driving our 2007 Focus as the 2012 Focus is garaged.
I did visit Autonation Ford in Torrance yesterday for an unrelated part I needed for the 07', and the parts manager agreed that the motor was shot, from my description, though it hasn't been inspected.

Why didn't you stop driving it when it started knocking?

Probably not a head gasket. Likely a piston or rod has worked it's way either outside the block, or has made a new home somewhere inside where it shouldn't be.

Youíre very welcome, and thanks for the update, allenwilson33.

Donít hesitate to contact me when your vehicle is towed to the dealer. Iíll be happy to look into available options to assist at that time!

Are there any warranties that I'd void by swapping the motor? I mean, it's not likely that Ford will cover anything at this point, no?

Trans warranty extensions are all that remains AFAIK at this point.

14M01 for clutches/seals/programming (100k, x yrs) and 14M02 for the TCM (150k, x yrs) plus the current 15b22 update available (programming).

Doubt any engine coverage, you can always ask. (5/60 power train is over)

Thanks for confirming my guess, @sailor.
This thrown rod, or whatever catastrophic engine failure occurred, is the second strike in my book against Ford. The first was the 4-spd auto 4F27E transmission failure in our 2007 Focus SE (which I replaced with my own hands at 150k miles.)
Because my wife and I are good patriotic Americans, we've remained rather loyal to Ford. Seriously. I've always bragged that we have nothing but BMW and Ford in our garage, with patriotism being no small factor in our decision to always keep an American car. So I'm not writing em' off just yet, but I'm a little jealous of the performance and reliability of a car which is in a lower class, made by..you guessed it- Chevy.
I rented a Chevrolet Sonic a few months ago, and the 6-spd clutch-less auto GT30 transmission was the best and smartest I've ever driven- stronger than the Powershift dual clutch in our 2012 Focus SEL, stronger and smoother than the 4F27E in our 2007 Focus SE, and smarter than any of my Bimmers' ZF or Getrag transmissions.
But that's still not enough to leave Ford nation.
But the Fords are my wife's cars, FYI focus fanatics. Check out my profile on bimmerfest and bimmerforums, where my passion lives.
I'm grateful to all of you forum members, for your help and support, I truly am. Without you folks, we'd have been 'stuck like chuck' countless times. So I'm not saying goodbye for good, but blowing my first engine at 83k miles has me burned out and not wanting to pick up a wrench on a ford until further notice- unless of course it is to help any of you, if I can. So while I won't be selling out and buying a Chevy or Fiat Chrysler, I will bid you all the very best for some time now..
Bump

Some of that is typical (Wife's '97 Honda didn't make 200k either before the trans went) some not (first high mileage MkIII I remember going, a number reported at lower mileage).

More recent BMW's have their own list of problems, nice cars but hardly perfect.

As more tech changes faster, which ones are good & bad will continue to be a question. Sounds like Suzuki got it right for that Sonic trans, at least from initial driving impressions.

G/L, wonder what actually let loose in yours but it certainly sounds major.
