DCT Transmission destroyed

hello, ... lurked a long time ago.
2012 focus TI hatch.

last week (thursday) the car started running poorly and would shutter and buck once in a while as well as revving up while slowing down. i started researching and found out about the Clutch and TCM recalls. i was preparing to bring it in to the dealer for these repairs.

on sunday, i went to drive my car and there was a horrendous grinding sound coming from the engine compartment. this sound only happened above ~10mph. it does not go away under breaking.

i took the car to the dealer, and they have diagnosed that my tranny is heavily damaged.

it can be rebuilt, or a re-manufactured transmission can be installed.
he did not recommend rebuilding.

the deal i was offered:
the labor will be put under the warranty claim for clutch / TCM, ford will pay.
i will pay $3468.03+tax for the re-man tranny.

what do you guys think? is this a good deal?

would this damage have been prevented if i had the recalls done?
i did not know about these particular TSBs until last week.

should i try to go up the food chain and contact a regional manager?

i own the car, and everything else runs well.

thanks for reading,
-k

I'm taking it that you don't have an extended warranty and you're out of the 5 year / 60k mile powertrain warranty? If so, that doesn't sound like too horrible of a deal.

who is to say if you put a new tranny in there it isn't going to do the same thing? Cut your losses and get something else...

Didn't see you owned a Ti...I guess $1000 a year isn't bad and it have an unlimited warranty. Go ahead and try it then I suppose. Still a chunk of money. But if it works then you can have the car for a long time.

Where'd you get oil changed? It should pop up when you go in for oil change at dealership and they should inform you/perform it. If they failed to mention it bring that up and make them help you out at least.

If not, may as well pay up and keep your eyes open for something else you might wanna trade to just in case.
