Sad Ford Focus experience - 2014 focus Ti

I have been lurking here for a while.. I finally have something to share.. unfortunately, its not a fun share..Last month, I ran into a service issue. We already had the Auto transmission redone ( multiple clutches), but then we had an issue with Spots all over the car, Turns out they said it was iron dust. We finally got some dealer help, but this has not been any fun.. This dust was not something anyone would accept, Car is Garaged, kept clean, the spots came from below the paint or so it appears. If it was just a Clay Bar and Buff job.. I would not have made an issue about it.

16 Months old.. 22K miles

I am looking to get a new car and quick..

Attaching redacted PDF file.. using Pics.. of note string from Ford and service info.

Thats brutal, I hope Ford steps up and helps you out, I am a new Ford owner myself and would be devastated to have that happen. However, you have had the car for 16 months, did you buy it new? Are you saying the damage is not as they claim, rail dust? Keep us imformed, I'm sure someone on here will have knowledge of this problem and be able to help determine...post some pictures

Car is a 2014 that we purchased new. Less than 18 months ago..

As far as the Rail dust goes, I really have no idea how the car would of acquired it as the records indicate, its all across the car (Front, top and rear).

Ford took pictures and that was how they diagnosed it. It very difficult for me to get pictures of it due to the color of the car and the Brown, rust like spots. We had the car professional Buffed and treated at the dealership and I have not yet had a chance to see if this will take care of the problem long term.

I think what gets me is the response from Ford itself, the dealership was helpful, but it was denied by ford and left to themselves.. You can see all that in the history.

Yeah.. I'm not buying another ford product... at least not as feel now

Well you have had the transmission problem as well so I understand your anger...I was worried about the DCT when I heard about all the problems but so far its been fine, I just learned how to drive it from practice and the threads on this great site. Hopefully the problem is fixed and you don't have any further issues with anything.

I just had a paint defect repaired on mine but I have only 6000 miles and 6 months on the car. There was a large glob of metal in the fold where the body goes into the wheel well. It had a few pointy spots and I was worried about it chipping due to all of the water/debris cast off from the tires. They fixed it without much trouble other than the $8 theft I mentioned in another post. Sorry they treated you so poorly.

Hi foamfollower,

I see you've been in contact with our Customer Relationship Center, and your claim has been through the review process. I just wanted to drop in and provide you the link to your Warranty Guide.

Page 11 states:

"Your vehicle’s body sheet metal panels are covered for an extended
Corrosion Coverage Period, which lasts for five years, regardless of miles
driven. The extended warranty coverage only applies if a body sheet metal
panel becomes perforated due to corrosion during normal use due to a
manufacturing defect in factory-supplied materials or factory workmanship.
For damage caused by airborne material (environmental fallout) where
there is no factory-related defect involved and therefore no warranty − our
policy is to provide free repair of paint damage due to the airborne
material for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first."

To Meagan (with Ford service),

I am perfectly aware of the environmental Clause of the warranty. Does Ford ship vehicles via Rail? Do they manufacture and Paint cars near rail Road yards. I can assure you, I live nowhere near any rail roads, rail yards etc, that is why I question how we had rail dust in our paint. remember, this car is garaged, I live in the country. The car is 18 months old. I would think that the issue is caused by the Manufacture of the vehicle.. Not a casual environmental issue.

Megan.. please step back.. think like a customer.. You just bought a $20K+ automobile and you find that your paint on the car is contaminated and rusting due to what ford is saying is rail DUST... and its caused by something where you live in the environment?
I guess all my neighbors must have this issue as well?? .. I live no where near an industrial area..

I understand and believe that FORD put in that warranty statement so they can use that 12K warranty Clause/Statement to protect themselves from foolish claims.. such as a person who works or lives near a Mfrg plant that might emit chemicals or dust. I don't think its intended to protect ford against an item like this. First ford says its a paint Chip issue, then they change it to "Rail Dust", and its now environmental.
I would say based on Fords view, that their paint cant stand up to casual use. My other vehicles don't have this issue, and one is also a ford and it is 6 years old.

And.. I just checked the Window Sticker -- "Method of Transp" RAIL

Alot of cars are shipped via rail and the dust can be a problem and is a good reason to clay bar your car even when brand new.
