Transmission died

Well after 9000 miles of near flawless performance, seems like my transmission has committed suicide. I went to drive to work this morning and noticed no power when I hit the gas. I thought it was me at first, but when I did manage to go, it was slow with high rpm. After I reached 3k which is nearly twice as high as it should have been it changed gears with about 2 seconds of neutral in between and a giant thud like the second clutch is dead and only one is doing all the work. Tried sport mode but it doesn't work.. at all. Nothing but high revs there and no thrust. Manual doesn't work either and there is now no indicator for which gear it's in on the second lcd.

At least it's all still under warranty.

Ouch! Good luck with everything, I just rolled over 24k miles and my DCT is largely tame and without issue, knock on wood.

Lucky! I wish my car would stop moving so that Ford can't claim that it's normal operation anymore...

(Haha, has anyone ever been called lucky for having their transmission die before?)

At that point, the response from Ford would likely be:

"It's a normal undesired characteristic condition of the vehicle. No repair recommended or available."

(This is the typical response I get from ford hotline requests on obvious defects.)

Thanks guys. It was (and still is, since I left it at the dealership) a totally binary problem. Sure it's missed which gear to be in here or there because the computer guessed wrong due to a sudden stop or something, but for all intents and purposes it was flawless, then it died. No warnings or anything in between. Ill keep everyone posted once I know more.

Before you brought it to the dealer or had it towed there, did you shut off and restart the car and see if the issue was there immediately? This happened to me once but I pulled over and restarted the car and it was normal again.... Good luck.

I managed to drive it there. No, I left it running on purpose just in case what you had happen happened to me. I wanted it documented. I told the guy who was on duty, who admitted to having changed out a huge number of clutches and that there was also a new transmission tsb. He was actually very sympathetic and said it could be hardware or software but his transmission guy wasn't in for another hour but we both agreed that leaving it on was a good idea for the time being. So there I left it running, and took the shuttle home.

UPDATE -

Ok, crisis over. Apparently it was nearly exactly the same as Ox-y-GenIII's problem. The computer controller that is responsible for shifting the car decided to kill itself. So therefore the car defaulted to a very basic mode where only one clutch works to move the vehicle completely un-optimized. The dude who did it said that its becoming a more frequent problem. He apparently installed a new one and flashed the latest transmission software on it which he said was engineered to make sure it didn't happen again.

He also said there was no physical damage done which is a relief because like I said earlier the transmission has until now been flawless or at least, correct as how it operates. Now I just have to get used to teaching it to shift all over again, which is back to being smooth but a tad quick.

Hopefully this will be a one off.
