Figured Id make this thread as it will be useful for potential buyers and owners, now and in the future. Also because I want to know what tsbs are out there right now so that when my parents get their focus it can have those addressed before it leaves the driveway. Would be nice if this got stickied too. So post up known Tsb's and recallls. All I got now is the TSB for MFT that just came out. And the steering one.

Some 2012 Focus vehicles equipped with electric power assisted steering (EPAS) and built on or before 04/19/2011 may exhibit a lack of power steering assist on vehicle start up and may exhibit a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) C102D. The customer will see Steering Assist Fault Service required message, the steering wheel icon, and a yellow dot in the instrument cluster, and hear the soft warning chime. Steering assist will remain for that key cycle. For the next key cycle at vehicle startup, the customer will see Steering Loss Stop Safely message, the steering wheel icon, and a red dot in the instrument cluster, and hear the hard warning chime. Steering assist will be removed for that key cycle and all future key cycles.

ACTION:
Reprogram the power steering control module (PSCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release 72.04 and higher or 73.01 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2011.5 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com.

NOTE: DIFFERENT MODULES MAY GENERATE DTC'S DURING REPROGRAMMING OF THE PSCM. FOLLOW IDS INSTRUCTIONS TO CLEAR DTC'S FROM ALL MODULES.

Thanks guys. I was hoping this was the one for the steering "wander" at highway speeds that has been posted at length on this forum. Mine isn't doing it but we have a customer that has complained about it. Bringing up the concern in the system does not show a TSB.

#6 ·
This thread deserves a sticky and maybe a moderator can add a post up top that can be updated with all the TSBs so we dont have to search through the thread?

FORD: 2012 Focus

This article supersedes TSB 12-1-2 to update the production fix date and Part List.

ISSUE:
Some 2012 Focus vehicles built on or before 12/12/2011 may exhibit a steering wander at highway speeds over 72 Km/h (45 MPH). Customers may indicate they have to frequently adjust the steering wheel slightly to maintain the direction of travel.

ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

Saw it a little late but it out there

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Replace the Steering Gear. Refer to Workshop Manual, Section 211-00.

NOTE: FOLLOW THE RECOMMENDED TORQUE SEQUENCE AND TORQUE SPECIFICATION. IMPROPER TORQUE SEQUENCE MAY RESULT IN THE STEERING CONCERN REOCCURRING.

Hmm, I have the (slight) vibration in park, neutral, and starting in first. I assumed it was due to the undersized (right?) engine mount. But perhaps I have an unbalanced clutch assembly? I don't think my dealer would want to do anything about it, though. It’s not horrible so I’ll probably just have to wait until it goes out (hopefully within 6years/125k miles).

I think it for that one

FORD: 2006-2007 Focus

This article supersedes TSB 06-25-2 to update the model years and Service Procedure.

ISSUE:
Some 2006-2007 Focus vehicles may exhibit a squeaking noise from the rear of the vehicle over bumps. This noise may be caused by contact between the rear parking brake cable sleeve and the wire form bracket located under the vehicle near the rear suspension tie bar being transferred into the vehicle body.

ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Remove the parking brake cable bolt. (Figure 1)

Figure 1 - Article 08-4-15

Insert the plastic insert into the square hole used for locating the parking brake cable guide. (Figure 1)
Remove any existing grease from the cable guide and cable (in this area only) by wiping clean with a suitable service towel.
Install the cable guide onto vehicle by inserting the locating tab of the guide into the center of the plastic insert and reinstalling the parking brake cable bolt. Torque to 17 lb-ft (23 N-m).

I would also be interested in this.

I may be picking up a 2013 Ruby Red SE Hatchback tomorrow, have to see if the driver seat is comfortable, travel 100 mi/day to/from work.

We were also wondering what they will say after we give them info on the trade-in vehicle, 1006 Zx4 Ses w/184,300. miles.

#23 ·
It was in the Dealer Connection Broadcast Message yesterday morning. But I don't have access the text of the TSBs newer than September of 2012 yet.

(In hindsight, maybe I shouldn't even be publicly publishing this information?)

Ok, I went today to my dealer to change my winter tires (I know, late) and after telling him about two episodes I experienced, he checked the car and did the TSB 13-4-6 on mine. TCM reprogramming. I also asked him to perform the TSB for the low washer fluid warning and he did it. And yes, it works ! I see now the message in the center console (of course, my whasher fluid was very law) every time I start the car. Put some fluid on it, message is gone.

What those episodes were ? Start the engine, push the acceleration but the car had almost no power to advance then a hard shift with a bump and back to almost no power. Stop the car, wait 10 seconds and restart, everything ok !

I drove it after the TSB and everything is fine. I hadn't any other problems with the DCT. And yes, I have the "grinding" sound but this is almost since 3000 km. Now, I am at 41 700 km with my 2012 FF.

So it's still grinding, but it drives better? Or has it stopped acting up altogether?

I posted this on the other thread, but thought it might be more appropriate somewhere over here:

There's a service tip on the ford tech website:

6361 - 2012-2013 Focus - Various Drivability, Transmission Shift/Engagement Concerns and/or DTC’s – Service Tip
Some 2012-2013 Focus vehicles may exhibit engine start concerns no crank, no start, hard start, intermittent start, noise during start and/or various automatic transmission concerns in Drive or Reverse when shifting from Park including no engagement, delayed or intermittent engagement. With or without a powertrain diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P06B8, P0805, P0809, P0850, P087A, P087E, P0884, P283A, P2831, P2832, P2835, P2836, P2837 May also set DTC P0700 without any accompanying fault codes. Prior to following normal diagnostics, first check G-104 for good body to ground contact. If ground eyelet can be rotated by hand, torque fastener to 12 Nm and verify eyelet cannot be rotated. If no issues are found, follow normal diagnostics.
I passed this one up yesterday until I realized that I have the P0850_52 DTC... hopefully this will fix my transmission issues? Though, I'm sure my clutch is already toast.

http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=278111&page=2

EDIT: Anyone know where ground G-104 is?

#44 ·
And since Ford has been less than helpful in even admitting there are problems with this transmission, here is a diagram:

#49 ·
Not TSBs, per se, but noteworthy.

6532 - 2012-2013 Focus - Vibration in Reverse After Transmission Removal and Installation - Service Tip
Some 2012-2013 Focus vehicles equipped with a DPS6 transmission may exhibit a vibration in reverse after a transmission removal and installation. Prior to following normal diagnostics, first ensure the two roll restrictor bolts are correctly installed. The roll restrictor to engine bolt is longer than the roll restrictor to frame bolt which could touch the steering rack and ground out. If no issues are found, follow normal diagnostics.

6531 - 2011-2014 Fiesta / 2012-2014 Focus – Fluid Leak Between the Engine and Transmission.
Some 2011-2014 Fiesta and 2012-2014 Focus vehicles equipped with a DPS6 transmission may experience a fluid leak between the engine and transmission. Be aware that the engine oil and DPS6 transmission fluid are similar in color and texture. A transmission fluid leak at the input shaft seal can cause a buildup of fluid in the bell housing; creating the appearance of a rear main seal leak. The rear main seal should only be replaced after a rear main seal failure is confirmed through appropriate diagnostics outlined in the online Workshop Manual (WSM) Section 303-00 / Diagnosis and Testing.

#50 ·
6531 is disturbing, there is a whole thread here of people excitedly awaiting their 2014 focus's, to which 6531 directly refers, for the same problem well known in posts here.

#53 ·
Wow, mr_cassandra, disturbing to no end. I guess Ford went all in with this tranny. No matter how many fail, they will not fix or replace anything in the construction or build process because it costs too much money.

#54 ·
Big, its important to remember that it is a very small percent of the owners having this problem. This is a highly popular car selling world-wide.
I think its is such a small percent that I am at a loss to explain why Ford doesn't just fix em all and move on.
But for sure, take one home for the weekend, drive fast, slow, ac on , extra passengers, heavy traffic, stop and go, highway etc.
If it all goes well, Its a great car.
