Natasha,

My 2013 Ford Focus is the first "new" car I have ever purchased. Thus far, I regret making that purchase.

I bought the vehicle on 6/9/2012 and have it back to the dealer for repairs several times; 11/13/2012 the engine light came on and the engine spit and spuddered, 1/21/2013 when the transmission jerked, surged and made grinding sounds, and 1/26/2013 and again on 1/21/2013 because the vehicle would not start. I'll will be taking it back to the dealer tomorrow (3/29/2013) because once again the transmission is not shifting properly and making grinding sounds.

I am at my wits end with this vehicle and have initated a lemon law complaint through the Better Business Bureau. I don't want to pursue a lemon law claim. I would much rather have what I thought I bought; a new car that requires normal maintanence, not a clunker that consistantly needs repairs. Please help.

20K Miles Update

Just had my 2012 serviced at 20K miles. Still running great, but I got some bad news from my service dept. I always ask about how the Focus Tranny issues are going when I visit. This time the manager told me they changed out 3 Trannys that week. And they are averaging 1 to 3 every week! I told him that so far mine has been great and I'm at 20,000 miles so I felt like I am "out of the woods". Then he went and burst my bubble when he said one of the 3 they had just changed had 34,000 miles on it, and had been running fine until then. Now I feel like I am sitting on a ticking time bomb Please Ford, find a fix, issue a recall, and let's get on with driving happy again!

Thanks to all of you who have been posting such useful info. I hope to be half as helpful as some of y'all have been!

We had purchased ours used with 19K on it and it had the shuddering problem. A Technician friend of mine explained the break in issue with the clutch to me... I had test driven a new one , so I understood part of the issue...We waited for a couple of months before mentioning it to the tech at our dealer... We broght the car for a recall on the passenger wiper motor (Spring in Virginia Beach is wet and having good wipers is kind of important) Our tech checked it and found a P0013 code and performed a SSM 22291 repair... Diagnosis was that the clutch set seals had failed and replaced the clutch sets... Got the car back yesterday and boy is it smooth! Tech at Beach Ford even left instructions for the break in of the new clutches...

Clutch is getting replaced at 15,000 miles

Today was second visit into dealership with shuddering, grinding sounds coming from transmission. Dealership is replacing clutch and seals due to a leakage problem. Can anyone please tell me if Ford has fixed the issue yet with the clutch?

I'm glad that your dealership is taking good care of you, MJRobbins. Let me know how the repair goes.

I can't speak for MJRobbins, but I'll tell you that my repair went horribly.

I picked up the car with a vibration on even-numbered gears that wasn't present before.

And now, almost 10,000 miles later, the car drives just as bad as it did when the clutches were changed.

The absolutely terrible driving characteristics of my car are now considered normal... even though they were sufficient to warrant clutch replacement a few months ago.

AGAIN, I HATE THIS CAR AND PURCHASING IT HAS BEEN THE WORST MISTAKE I'VE EVER MADE!!

To any potential Focus owners reading this forum: RUN!! Buying a Focus will make you irritable and depressed.

I guarantee that driving my heap of junk in city traffic will have you ready to kick puppies.

There's nothing like watching a SEMI TRUCK slowly out accelerate you, unable to keep up without two downshifts.

Yeah, it's that bad. It won't even keep up with traffic without repeatedly mashing the pedal to the floor. This does wonders for my city fuel economy, LOL.

Stop on over. If its as bad as you claim, we'll go by my dealer and I'm sure they'll take care of it.
