New Style Android Install idea with questions

Hey guys! This is one of my first posts, so please be gentle.

Anyways, I had his idea about putting an android tablet in my 2012 SE with SYNC, but no MFT; not a new idea. I was hoping to be able to remove the tablet, and have the standard small SYNC screen behind the tablet, maintaining SYNC, voice control, and radio controls. I need help finding an aftermarket dash with the buttons moved to allow for a tablet to fit in. I know there are many products that have the tablet bult in, but I want one that is just the buttons and a big hole for the tablet. obviously I will keep all of you updated as this project progresses.

Thanks guys!

Ah, not quite. Imagine the dash with the MFT screen, but it is an android tablet. When yiu remove the tablet, the original small sync screen is sitting back there.

Interesting idea, unfortunately no one makes a product like that so you'll have to fiberglass it yourself. Secondly software...wow, thattle be complicated. Do you want the tablet to be the media source? I don't think anyone has written anything to BE sync on a tablet, let alone the code to enable handoff between the tablet and the sync screen.

I like the idea, I think its just out of the realm of DIY'ing. You'd need someone to write you some MASSIVE scripting.

I hate to rain on the parade like that, but its just not easy. That hand-off is the biggest issue, as neither Sync nor Android are written with each other in mind. I've never played around with Sync, so I couldn't even tell you specifics on how its written.

Id recommend you re-evaluate the desire to keep the original display. Many people use tablets as their media control/DAC.

Hi ! I'm not sure what i did on my 2012 Focus is what you're asking but i put a bracket (hope it's the good word / i'm french so ... sorry for my bad english) on the dash just in front of the screen supporting my Android phone.
The bracket can be removed easily and the phone too.

I play music by bluetooth.

I was hoping to do something like this, only with a tablet and have it slide in and out for a more factory look

I don't see why you couldn't simply cut a groove into the metra double din kit. I'm working on doing a similar project and I'll have my tablet working in parallel with sync. I purchased an asus me572 tablet. 7" screens just so happen to fit perfectly in a double din space. I plan on having my tablet paired to sync via bluetooth and , I want to get a mobile Hotspot so I can have 4G LTE in my car. Then I'll be able to use it for navigation, Internet radio, bluetooth obd2 datalogging/monitoring, and whatever else I've can think of. I'll see if I can post pictures of my build when I start installing it and everything. I've just been getting parts together as of recently. it has been pretty cheap I would say with all the parts in cling the tablet it's been under $350. If you want to know how I've begun preparing my tablet for its permanent install. Feel free to ask
