Question aftermarket courtesy light power point?

im trying to add LEDs to the inside of my car that turn on when my door opens and turns off when i close it. i tried plugging into the fuse that is connected to the dome lights and current footwell lighting however the leds just stay on and don't turn off. i currently have a focus with the color changing ambient light package.

thanks in advance

The fuse is always hot. Since you have an SEL, the easiest way is probably tapping into the puddle light.

ill check that out, found another thread on here that shows how to install illuminated door sills and was thinking of using that power point since i'd have to thread the wire through fewer things

nope, turned out to be for the mk2 but thought i'd try it anyways. cut the wire it said to tap into but turns out that wasn't the case for the mk3. patched it up and put the pillar back on.

i found this though. post #8 has what looks like an extension from the current footwell lighting to just wires, tried finding it via the part number but no luck

tapped into the footwell lighting today, worked as a power source however with the lighting setup i have it doesn't work the way i want it to. i'm using the 6 piece expandable multicolor led kit from ledglow. it powers on but won't power back off.

my car also does not have puddle lights so i can't splice into those

anyone know which pillar the dome light wire runs up and what color it would be?

edit: specifically what color the wire is that tells the dome light to turn on when the door is opened?
