I'm really happy with my Steeda STS, MS3 RMM, and non-weighted knob. Doesn't quite feel stock, but isn't that the point?

Thanks tbone. I take it the braket adjusts the throw and the entire kit also reduces the shifter height? While I like the knob that twenty is sporting, I'm not sure I want to see that much shift rod. I may have to take the thing apart and throw a retainer nut on to keep the boot up to the knob. We'll see though.

There are a couple of components to the "feel". One of them is throw, and another is engagement. I LOVE the way the transmission clicks into gear - and I think the shifter is part of it. There is no vagueness in stock form. If you've ever driven a WRX, you know what vagueness means. Word is that a short shifter in the WRX improves it, but doesn't correct it.

The Focus transmission is not like that. I would like to reduce the throw, but not the feel of the transmission going into gear.

Yes, the bracket attaches on the transmission side of the linkage. This reduces the leverage through the linkage and therefore increases effort slightly and makes it feel more notch-y. However, the weight of the Blox 490g knob smooths it right back out. The end result is very close to the stock feel, but a bit more "mechanical", and shorter. It is definitely not vague.

You don't have to set up the boot the way Twenty has it. You can use a 1/2" drill set/stop to keep the boot retainer against the knob. I would not use a retainer nut under the knob, as this would effectively lengthen the shift lever. It will look like this with the drill stop (picture courtesy of another FF member):

Okay, I understand. That makes sense.

What is a 1/2" drill set/stop? Is that a collar with a set screw in it?

Awesome - that's exactly what I had in my head but wanted to verify.

I'll post a pic when mine is installed. I don't think it will look much different from what is already posted. Maybe I'll put something stupid in the back ground and do a "please add caption" thread.
