One thing I've been slightly disappointed with is the lack of center console interior storage. I wish there was a cubby hole right where the climate control and shifter are--mainly to stick my phone for easy access without taking up the cupholders. I ended up ordering a Pro-Clip mount, and I love it. Check it out here: 2012 Ford Focus Pro-Clip Mounts.
I got the angled mount, and it fits just perfectly on the edge of the vent and that lower trim piece below the audio/nav. It is very secure and sturdy--no rattles or wobbliness. I've decided to use Bluetooth for music instead of USB, so I like to have the phone visible to pick out music, etc. and view SMS if they come in (iPhone doesn't support SMS through Sync). The mount is inside the vertical plane of the center console, too, so it doesn't bump the left knee of the front passenger.
Thanks for bumping the thread up TitaniumStick. I was going to buy some cappy mount until I saw this thread 5 Mina ago
Purchasing 2 mounts, for me and for the passenger. Most of who join my ride take out their phones in put it the cup holder which is not always not empty. ( I drink liquids a lot )
Just another idea for those out there looking for something else. I had a Kuda Base in my 04 and will be getting one for my 12, The are a bit more expensive, but looks more like stock and its a great product, The one in my 04 is 7 years old and still going strong.
I think the center console Kuda is perfect for a phone mount, but too low for a GPS. I like the GPS in the middle so my FO can program the nav while I fly.
I'm sorry to hear that the Pro-Clip center mount isn't working for you. I use mine to hold my iPhone 4s. The clip fits perfectly, adjusts smoothly and solidly holds my phone. Anything larger than my iPhone could prove to be a problem.
As far as their return policy - well it sucks. It's misleading because you have to fully read the entire policy. (in the 1st statement - it says they accept returns. Most people would stop reading after that - including myself)

Nothing Ninja bout my edit - just someone fighting with his iPad app for this forum. I guess im not sure how to quote someone - so that was the only way to do so - lol. It was more of a bull in a china shop and less of a ninja - especially since I referenced the wrong person. Thanks for being a good sport!!
Nonetheless - im more disappointed in the return policy of this company, since i have been so vocal in praising them.

I finally put in my proclip mount yesterday. I bought the passenger side vent mount and it works real well for my phone. I ran a cable from a USB adapter in the rear power outlet and snaked it under the center console to behind the dash and brought it up alongside the glove box.
The only downside to this arrangement is that the phone is mounted kind of low. The only way I see around that is hanging it off the windshield or else on the left A pillar, but I don't think I'd be happy with those arrangements either.
One other thing I found with the proclip. It has a pretty strong grip, strong enough that I didn't bother using the adhesive on it. I did the same thing with my last car, and after 4 years it's still holding on just fine.
Ta Da, for those of you, who like me made the mistake of getting the Pro-Clip for the drivers side vent, and can't return it.
I may have found a simple work around for you, at least it does for me.
The problem is that the mounting puts the GPS WAY too close to the steering wheel and your fingers for safety or comfort.
Like this, sorry I was taking the pic from the passengers side with my right hand and using my left hand on the wheel.
I think I have solved the problem, for me at least, by removing the swivel mounting that fits between the GPS mount and the clip on piece.
Removing this piece gives you another 3/4 inch of space between the steering wheel and the GPS.
The down side is that you will not be able to move it around any more and its not in the "perfect position".
But it can still be easily seen and operated by the driver.
Best of all is that this is a true no cost way to go and its simple to do because the holes in the mounting match the holes in the clip, and you can use the screws you just took out to secure it in place.

It's definitely pricey, but what out there compares? I don't want to stick mine to the windshield, I don't like it blocking my view and with this windshield I don't see many options. Mounting on top of the dash isn't that great an option for me, and I'd have to mount something to the surface to make that work.
Also, keep in mind for $60 you get two pieces, and that means you can replace one or the other when you get a new device or car. Sure that's still expensive, but the fact is that it works great.
I've used on in my 135i for four years. It's worked great. It doesn't come loose and I didn't even use the adhesive. And it so happens mine worked both for my Garmin GPS and for my phone. For that kind of reliability and convenience it's worth the money to me.
I purchased the same one as you for the vent. I have a Google Nexus phone and I am beyond happy with the purchase and location of the phone. I do hate this site however, because every time I visit it, I have to spend more money on awesome upgrades to my car. Now on to finding H11 head lights....
Yup, the Pro-Clip is money I will never have to spend again. H11's are in my future too, especially as the days get shorter and both trips to/from work will be in the dark.
Hey there I have a thought or two here. To me the whole idea of mounting your phone or whatever is to minimize the amount of time and distance your eyes must move off the road to view your device. Keeping this in mind what I have been doing is I got one of those $15-20 window suction cup jobs with the long moveable skinny arm. I stick the suction cup up behind the rearview mirror on the windshield so it's not in the way, then I bend the flexible arm so that when I slide my phone in it is sitting just under my rearview mirror and to the left. While I'm driving and navigating, I only need to move my eyes a few inches from the road to look at my device. I also plug the phone into the glove box so I can talk on the phone hands free if I need to. This setup works very well for me and maximises safety because my eyes barely leave the road. It does block your view under the mirror but if I'm not using the phone for nav, then I just bend it up out of the way.
In many states, having ANYTHING attached to your windshield except the rearview mirror is illegal. I know many do it anyways, but I try to eliminate any probable cause beforehand. An obstructed windshield is a primary, they can pull you over for it w/o any other violation taking place.
I also am not fond of suction cup mounts. And, finally, I just like to have a solution that is more permanent then a suction cup mount and a dangling cord. That cord would distract me more then having the device mounted just below my eyeline at the radio.
If we all liked the same thing, we would still be driving black Model A Ford's. Your solution works for you, mine works for me[thumb]
I have used those windshield mounts for a number of years, and they are fine. I now prefer the proclip mounts due to style and ease of reach. I don't have to more my hand from the shifter to make an update using Waze, easy finger reach. Plus if you don't buy a good mount for your windshield, they do come off at the most inopportune time.
My pro clip just started to "slip" after 3 months. The mount is fine, but the ball attachment lets my iPhone fall forward instead of staying in place. I'm thinking about putting some glue in there so my phone stays where I want it most.
Before you maybe wreck it with glue.
Try using a thin strip of wax paper inside the ball mounting.
A small piece will fill up the gap causing the slippage without screwing things up on you.
If it starts slipping again in a couple of months, just replace the paper to fix it.
Does anyone have the Kuda mount? Any pictures? I'm thinking about getting the Proclip, but the Kuda mount that was posted is also intriguing. I was wondering if there are any pictures of the mount in action.
I have to Kuda mount, the picture on their site is really the same thing I could show ya. you can put just about any kind of universal mount on it to fit your needs.
And for whats its worth I have one on my 04 as well, had it going on 6 years now and LOTS of use, still looks and fits great. If your willing to spend the extra money you wont be disappointed.
Hey guys. Im looking to buy the ProClip center mount, but im trying to avoid also buying the ProClip iphone holder. Im from Canada, and with the 2 mounts+S&H+tax its gonna run me over $100 which is a little more than i want to spend on a clip.
Is there a cheaper option for the phone holder? I've searched around, but havent been able to find anything decent. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx
I agree with you about the price, it is a little ridiculous to pay so much money for a holder. Now that I have it and I have the side mounted one, I can see why it costs so much. The design and construction of it is extremely good and I am beyond happy with the purchase. You could purchase a cheaper one, but you won't find one that fits so perfectly for our cars.
Hey guys, I just wanted to give those of you still looking for a phone mount a heads up about a company called Panavise. I have spoken with them about a mount for our vehicles and they say one is in the works. I have emailed back and forth with them a couple times and they expect to see one out by December or January. Here is what their mount for the Fusion looks like... http://www.panavise.com/pages_addons/indashFimage.html?modelID=1273880313128249&partn=751072710
I have read that combining a Panavise InDash mounting bracket with a device specific mount from Proclip gives you a great setup and that's what I plan to do as soon as Panavise releases a bracket for the 2012+ Focus.
+1 for Proclip phone mount. They use the brodit product. I purchased an Iphone specific holder and used their center console mount. I could not be happier for the money spent.
Just got one of these for my Galaxy Nexus...the A-Beam one. All I can say is this thing is awesome!
