Best tuner for the DCT

I'm new to the tuning world so bare (bear?) with me. I've gotten fed up with the DCT software on my mk3. I'm looking for something to give me firm shifts and no clutch shudder if that's even possible. I've looked at injected tuning and I'm impressed. But what is by far the best DCT software? I don't want something that's going to wear my clutches prematurely. Thanks!

Look at Tom's (FocusPower/1turbofocus) posts in the MkIII Problems section or in his Vendor's section.

Custom tuning with lifetime adjustments as requested/required by mods.

Quite a good rep for 'shudder' correction, and firmer shifting HELPS clutch life over slow slipping engagements.

P.S. - latest post here:Intermittent shuddering

I honestly think if you can get ford to test your car and if it fails to go that route. Otherwise if it passes then yes.. Talk to tom. You can also get new clutches then get toms tune to do the shift programming.

Clutch is fine. Had seals, TCM, and clutch replaced to latest revision. It rarely ever shudders and if it does it's very minor. I just don't like how the new software rides the clutch and it's sloppy slushy shifting.

I understand that there are a number of 'haters' active on facebook, if you dive into the details it falls into a category of personal disagreements for the most part with a few disappointed that he couldn't or wouldn't do exactly what they wanted for engine tuning.

You can find controversy here as well if you search for it.

Anyone doing as much business as he does will have issues at times, and one of the favorite complaints is that he WON'T do refunds unless HE gives up on the process of making adjustments to accomplish the goals.

IMHO it's important to separate opinionated posts here along with lack of capability or desire to do ANYTHING desired from the services he DOES do very well.

Items like refusing to tune for pump E-85 that's variable in quality, raising neutral RPM limits to a level that can do damage, 'lope' tune for engine sound at low RPM that isn't functional and can potentially do damage, etc. fall into the areas where he can't/won't satisfy demands. For the MkIII there are certain factory strategies that SCT doesn't support yet for items like higher RPM limits or adjusting programmed emissions 'rev hang', those are slowly being reduced in number as SCT adds more coverage for new strategies.

The largest issue that only affects a few on occasion is that he is an individual, and as such is not ALWAYS available on a moments notice. Despite often working late nights & weekends when customers are avail., there have been times when he's not easily avail. due to family emergencies.

You also need to have the time/opportunity to take the car for a drive to do datalogs to send him for adjustments to be made, the custom remote tuning is a cooperative venture. The advantage is that you end up with a real world set of 'dyno' type adjustments, without the cost of Dyno time and adding drivability capability that a dyno can't recreate in many cases. This is primarily in regard to engine performance, but may also be useful for trans tuning as you report operation & preferences to go along with the datalogs.

Personality wise, it helps to be able to get along with someone opinionated, who will tell you what's best for your car/engine based on his knowledge & experience instead of going along with whatever you think/want based on yours. It's really what you are buying IMO, but doesn't set well with all.

P.S. - you also get the usual loyalty to whatever folks buy for their own cars, it's almost ALWAYS the best option in their opinion.

I'm torn right now. After reading everything I decided not to go with him. Now I'm going back and forth. I'm not looking for performance just moreso improved driveability, and increasing longevity of my DCT.

He pioneered that, working on his own MkIII's and expanding on the improvements seen from earlier performance modifications to the programming.

He's the only one offering what you desire as a priority, other 'canned' options concentrate on firmer shifting for the performance enthusiast.

Fine tuning and adjustment for YOUR particular car is not avail. elsewhere at the present, making it an obvious choice IMHO.
