2012 -> 2014 Lug nuts

I have a 2012 Focus S with steel wheels. I bought some 2014 SE wheels and I am not sure if the lug nuts off the steel wheels(just a regular nut looking lug) will work on the 2014 SE wheels or if I need to buy the fancy looking ones. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I think they are the same. Just take one of yours off and make sure it fits all the way in the alloys. No need to lift the car just to remove one.

The fancy looking ones seem to have a larger bevel or like a washer on them. The auto parts store said there is 2 diff lugs for the year but they can only get one. See I'm not sure if the ones I have sit to far down in. In the third pic you can see where the style the person who has the wheels before me sat.

I actually think I may have an extra set. Can't remember.
You can have them for a few bucks if you want.
Not sure if that would be cheaper then getting them from the parts store with shipping though..

Yeah the S models have hub caps so they don't have the better looking lugs. I just don't know if the bevel is the same and will work since they don't have the washer type design.

Bevel would be the same, but it's good to have a set with a long enough beveled section to fully cover the wheel hole taper to it's top.

Can't tell for sure from the picture, but it looks like the steel wheel version is a bit short in that regard.

Don't need ones with that added 'cap' to cover them, but ones that continue to a round top section that fills the hole is appropriate.

BTW, the "lip" on the nicer lugs do not do anything. They actually don't contact the wheel face (only the beveled section does).

The only reason for the lip is to adhere the cosmetic sleeve to the lug nut. How do I know this, well my sleeves took on moisture separated from my lugs and proceeded to be "ground down" by a wrench (after the dealer overtorqued the lug nuts on a warranty visit). If this ever happens to you the regular 19mm socket will be too large, however the steel cores are 18mm and that works fine.

Check your lug nuts, if you see the sides "puffing" out, you have moisture between the cosmetic and steel layers and your outer layers will eventually delaminate. The reason this happens is if the nuts are ever over torqued (which is common since everyone uses dumb air tools to remove and tighten lug nuts) the outer cosmetic layer and inner steel layer separate and allow moisture in.

Of my 20 lug nuts, 10 are bad; of the 10 bad ones, 3 are destroyed.

I believe they are 12x1.5 if you wanted to go aftermarket. Conical seat type.
