Hood will not open...

2012 SE. 126k miles.

Carried the car to my local dealer saturday (Country Ford in Southaven, MS) to have a new battery installed. Figured my OE battery made it this long, I would give Motorcraft another run.

Paid in full when car was complete and decided to look at my new $150 investment. Pull hood latch and nothing. Walk around front and cannot get it to budge.

I go inside and get my service advisor. He calls a few people out. After 5 or so minutes they pull it into the shop. 5-6 techs spend 30 minutes before giving up. Advisor asks me to come back Monday (today) when their trim tech is in.

Swapped cars with my wife and had her carry it this morning. 2 and a half hours later they pull it around and call for her to pick it up. Could not find why hood will not pop. I got on the phone with service advisor and he doesn't know what is wrong or how to fix it. My wife said the tech just shrugged before tossing the keys to advisor.

So, how do I pop the stupid hood with the latch not working. One under the hood operates correctly. I pried all around looking for any obstructions and see none. Latch is about 14" back from bumper and impossible to see.

My only thought is get it on ramps, pull skid plates and fish from the bottom for a while while praying.

First and last time I use a dealer for any service. I do plan on delivering a bill for my services after I get this resolved.

FWIW I've seen this mentioned in the MkIII section, and some fishing from underneath to get at the cable was the answer (in short) IIRC.

I'm going to move this there for more looks so others who were involved/remember that can chime in.

Between myself and the ford techs the hood has a few dents from hitting and the lip is bent upwards at this point. I jammed a screwdriver holding the latch in the cabin open while manhandling the hood.

No luck.

Thanks for the move btw

Does the hood latch have any resistance when you pull it?

They may have disconnected your hood release cable under the hood when they installed your battery, although I can not imagine why unless it was an accident. This has happened before and IIRC, the dealer can open the hood from underneath but it will have to be a tech that has experience with this because it is not easy.

Not really any resistance. Feels like it's stuck but moves freely if that makes any sense.

Friend that's a Honda tech said take a 3 foot long screwdriver between radiator and condenser and hope for the best. Happens to them once or twice a year.

My bet, but only because I did this, is that the tech leaned on the brittle plastic collar that holds the release mechanism and the cable steady to it pulls the lever rather than moving the cable around.

Luckily I didn't shut my hood and get locked out, but I used a few choice zip ties to keep things in order.

GL getting in, wish I could help, but coming up from the bottom is probably your only choice unless your can get a lucky hook around arm for the cable release on the yellow handle under the hood.

I can reach the yellow handle easily. It does nothing until the initial lock releases.

How do you figure? The cable may be fine if the bracket that holds it is broken, and that cable run from in the cabin is a huge whore to replace, I've read.
