You'll know straight away if you like it or not. Any trans issues should show. Try slow driving and fast driving.
Take it around roundabouts because it's a mix off braking, turning, and accelerating again all at low speed.
Reversing slowly, how does it cope?
Hill start, does it feel comfortable and acceptable?

P.S Ford did a promotion here (AUS) a while ago where if you test drove the car before you bought it, they gave you $500 off.
Going to the dealership to test drive one on Friday so we will see I asked a couple random kids on campus as well and no one seems to have an issue. I just never see many on the road lol

Despite having the clutch issue and the TCM dying on me leaving me stranded, I still consider my Focus a nice car. I wouldn't recommend the Focus to just anyone though. You really need to learn about the technology of the trans and you definitely need to know how to drive it. If you understand what it is and how to drive it, I say go for it. I'm still very happy with my Focus.

I agree 100%. My 2015 drives fine and I love it. It isn't fast though lol. If you want anything in specific be sure to buy it that way. IE nav, xm, dual climate, etc. It's very difficult and costly to add them later.

Oh I agree. The 2.0 isn't anywhere close to fast. It's got some pep though. I'm used to my Fusion V6 having some power but had to dump that since it was having drivetrain issues

On my second one here - first was a '12, that was totaled and I picked up the '14. If you know how to drive a manual and you also race, I think this will not be an issue for you if you picked up the DCT...

I've had my '14 for about a year and a half. Love the car. Handles nice, rides sporty, fun to drive. Sometimes it can be more fun to drive a slow car fast.
The only issue I have with the trans is it shifts very lazy. I expected it to snap into the next gear, particularly on take off from a stop. This act like a stick being driven by someone that doesn't know how to drive a stick. As in a long, slow let-off of the clutch pedal.
Normal? Not normal? In between normal and not? Problem on the way?
