For the mechanic it's no joy being without his own vehicle for an evening, unpaid extra effort and if only used for the direct trip he's out of luck for personal errands - and may NOT hit the right circumstances to recreate the issue.

Now taking it to the Drive In for a Movie would be a bit out of hand, or on a long pleasure trip, gotta keep it all in perspective.

When a loaner is provided and the situation resembles a 'keep it until you fix it' scenario, this doesn't seem out of place.

Doesn't happen all that often, and from a personal perspective I never enjoyed doing so in the Cycle shops the very few times it might happen. Doesn't resemble the usual complaint about joy rides on lunch hours often mentioned.
I also gave them a video of it making the noise which was very audible. In fact, here's the video.

I told them it's only in idle. I stressed it because the last time I was in the test drove it. And I said to the service advisor this time around "they test drove it last time and couldn't find it. The noise doesn't happen when driven, only at idle". So that's why it's weird that they had to drive it so much from my perspective.

I decided just to "let it go". On Sunday night though I got out of my car and noticed something white under my seat. So I pulled it out and I'm pretty sure it's the cap from the dielectric grease tube they used on my side mirror connectors to keep the water out lol.

Doesn't inspire confidence in their professionalism IMO.

Nothing wrong with inquiring the reason for the extra driving. They should've offered to clean your car. If they can't replicate the faults or get a code then even the video doesn't do much for them unless it's a common issue.
