I've had high hopes with HP tuners with other vehicles but had hopes dashed... but listening

That is not true.
Eric , When did this change , I talked to HPTuners in June 16 and again January 17 and there was no plans to add the Focus platform

Actually HP Tuners call me asking who I use and would I be interested and I told them I would be interested in testing it , then I got a call back saying there was not going to be any Focus Love

From the way it was explained to me unless HP Tuners changes something from the way it is now the HP Tuning wont be cost effective for remote tuning and doing free tune updates

My experience with hp tuners is there are local tuners that can tune it....or people learn how to tune themselves...remote tuning would be nice...the support has been lacking though for many platforms.

Online model listing still shows Focus ST & RS only.

If HP Tuners stay with how there doing things now it wont be cost effective to do HP Tuners for remote tuning , HP Tuner ( if I was told correctly) is set up where you buy X # of tunes when you run out of those you have to buy more so every tune update or change will use a tune so say you get 10 tunes when you buy the package and lets say you have issues with your Focus and it takes 2-4 tunes to find all the issue then you have lost 20-40% if your 10 tunes , A custom tune never goes perfect , it takes 2+ to get the tune where it should be , I have guys with 80+ tunes to there Focus , it would of cost them a fortune , many in the 20-30 range

With SCT you get free updates .

I didn't look close at their pricing after confirming only the RS/ST are currently supported in the Focus line.

Seemed to be set up for the individual, or local tuner selling individual tunes.

Cheapest for limited tunes to an individual VIN, next step up was unlimited tunes to a particular model & year for someone who wanted to experiment more/reuse it indefinitely for a particular car/type, then packages for open tuning as you'd do commercially calculated for # of tunes done as Tom mentions.

At that commercial level you've got the option to 'lock' your tunes so someone else can't download them use them elsewhere.

I didn't dig deeper to learn more about how it operates, like checking to see if you could make multiple changes in one tuning session (as on a dyno) and be charged one tune or if every fresh changed 'tune' loaded counted as a single one used.

DEFINITELY wouldn't work for Tom's model of unlimited tuning for a single customer without major changes (still N/A of F/I, no new 'strategy' by Ford to require starting over).

This is modeled for selling single tunes, or a DIY use.

Unless HP tuners changed, the way it as when I used it in 2006-2007 when you purchased the tuning sweet you received 8 credits. It would take say 2 credits to unlock one car, with it being unlocked you have unlimited flashes when tuning your car. If you wanted to tune a second car you would use 2 more credits. And the last option was to unlock a model year, so for 8 credits you would unlock the model year of 2012 Ford Focus. Having a model year unlocked is nice if you have several friends with a 2012 focus and can tune them all with out unlocking each individual car.

Well, if it's still the case this is nice (you have the choice) compare to others which lock to VIN.

It really was, when I used it was while I was tuning my 2.4 LE5 Saturn Ion, same car as the cobalt ss non supercharged. I was able to share and compare my tune that I wrote vs other people's. The community was awesome, and open to sharing. Completely different then SCT and others like it.
