I love mine on back roads and windy gravel roads too. I found the option to turn off the traction control and it makes the car a drifting monster and a blast to drive.

well i'd have to agree with everything you said. these cars really are great to drive. I work on a forest covered mountain with very windy roads so my daily commute can be very fun when i want it to be. I will say that better motor mounts help. I'm looking to invest in some coil overs down the road and better tires. I only have 35k on the clock but so far she runs great and shifts good!

Yes, I love hearing this. Mine is a 2012 with all factory equipment. I run my car super hard, 113000 miles on her.

I've got the manual se and I have to say it's a blast on the back roads. The car loves to rev in the lower gears and just powers out of corners. For the money, it's a great mix of fun and everyday usefulness.

Powershift

If you have Powershift for the DCT, use it! Mastering manually (or somewhat manually) shifting gears while back roading can make it exponentially more fun and challenging. You'll be able to pull away from corners much quicker when in the proper gear at the right time and if you have a nice exhaust, be able to hear the lovely growl from a high-revving downshift before entering a corner.

All this time, I thought I was the only one that enjoyed the MK3 chassis for what it's worth.. I love taking my 15 SE Sedan down the back roads and opening 'er up. Very stiff suspension setup and has awesome acceleration out of the turns.
I've driven all sorts of vehicles, and by far, the Focus has been my most favorite for windy roads and overall handling experience.

excellent write up.. and cooked brakes its just like cooked clutch you cant figure out what caused the smell and when you do you never forget it and can usually call someone frying a clutch from riding it from the other side of an intersection waiting to jump the green

Stiff suspension? You need to drive some more vehicles. My STI makes the Focus suspension seem like a Caddies.
