Spoiler for my SE. This girl needs advice.

I really want to put a matte black spoiler on my 2016 SE. She would look great with those black wheels. I am not a helpless girl by any means. I am super handy, and have changed my own brakes and rotors and done light maintanence and (older car, doesn't have to be flawless) body work. I can handle tools and am a perfectionist.

I see that they sell new spoilers for the '16 online. The primered ones go for $50 and up and the painted ones are about double that and up. Since I don't have to match any particular paint (painting matte black spoiler then installing on my Race Red car) I think I could handle painting it myself with some spray paint from the auto shop. But, I've never painted the body of (or part that goes on) a new car. I don't want to F it up. I need advice on what kind of matte black paint and especially clear coat. I am assuming they make matte clear coat. It seems easy yet maybe I am not thinking it through. These sites say that you could not get your primered spoiler painted at a shop for the extra $50 they charge. I have no idea myself.

Also, I am iffy on attaching the new spoiler. Again, I am quite capable, but it's my brand new baby I'd be drilling into. Yikes. I am not made of money. I know can afford $50 and some paint. But to go for the $100 plus and an install charge is going to pinch hard. I have a new car payment now and an annoyingly bigger insurance bill. I just want to know if I should attempt this. That black spoiler would be so sweeeeet!

Yea you can get the spoiler, scuff it up & then hit up a auto parts store for a couple cans of matte black spray paint. Figure out a place to put it & your going to lay down a quite a few light coats every five minutes or so. Don't go heavy & keep your arm moving. It'll come w/ a template of where to drill the holes. Use a pilot hole 1st. I'd also use masking tape so just in case you don't marr the rest of the body, but I really think you'll be ok. I personally would have it painted your body color, race red. Is it a st spoiler?

I think you have a sedan from looking at your posts, right? I'd personally paint it gloss black match the wheels. Could also do the mirror caps in gloss black paint or vinyl to really tie things together then

I have been thinking about that a lot. I saw a whit Charger with a matte black spoiler at it looked sweet! There are a good bit of matte black items to match as well. Tires are matte, running board strip and around the lower back is matte. the V part forward of the mirror is matte, so there is a good bit of matte too. It is a tough decision. Gloss would be slick but matte would be more race-like. It would make it stand out a bit too.

Spoiler delete is really the way to go. You'll probably pick up on efficiency as well

Honestly, in the long run I think they look better with no spoiler.
In about ten years you're going to see people looking for spoilerless trunk lids for their car.

Maybe pick up one of these and stick it on with 3M tape.

Or one of these.

Kyle's (Theblueoval) build thread shows his car at the very beginning when it had a matte black plasti dipped spoiler

Wow! Cool! Thanks guys. I was wondering how well the 3M tape holds. I guess if you check it once a year or so. I don't want it to fly off and hit someone's car after a while. I guess the gloss does look good. I think I saw one of those smaller ones on a car. I was trying to look at it. Yay! options. Then I am not stuck with a spoiler if I want to delete. I just love the contrast. And Yes, I am a stock or replica stock girl. I'm not going to be putting one of those over the top giant spoilers on Scarlett. She's a classy girl like me.
