Battery replacement- 2012 Focus

Wife's car has been giving us a little bit of a fit lately. She hasn't been working in a couple weeks. So it doesn't get driven very much. Unless we go somewhere together and I don't feel like taking my truck. Also I've been working more, so I haven't driven it. Anyways. Car battery is draining and won't start. You open the car and everything seems fine. Try to turn over and the starter just groans. Put the battery charger to it and it'll fired right up after a while. Went to check it the next morning. Same thing. Lights all came on. Won't start.

So, I think it's time for a new battery. My question is, what battery would you guys go with? Can I stuff an optima red or yellow top in there? I HATE how the battery is halfway sticking out. Anyways, so what's up? What y'all think?

So to answer my own question, can you fit an optima yellow top battery in a 2012 focus?

Yes and no. Yes, it fits in the bucket. Yes, you can put the battery bar back to hold the battery in place. No, you can not put the battery covers back on. I guess the posts are just a hair taller and it makes it so the covers do not go back into place. I considered just cutting the covers to make room for the posts. But I have a doctors appointment in a little bit. So no time for that.

Just a reminder. You should always remove all your tools from the engine bay so as to not lose them. Or the Citizen watch your best friend gave you. This pic was taken after I realized I left my watch where it is in the photo. And it was a nice surprise to see the tools there.

Reset your battery sensor (BMS) to get proper advantage of your new battery... it's important!

It's the D35. Yeah the site says none. But autozone and oreillys website both said they do. And it did. But like I said, the battery cover does not fit. The posts are too high as the FoMoCo battery has sunken in/ flush posts.

Dealer IDS or FORSCAN.

If the vehicle battery is replaced, carry out the Battery Monitoring System Reset using the scan tool. If the Battery Monitoring System Reset is not carried out, measurement data collected for the old battery is not deleted and future state of charge measurements will be inaccurate. For example, if an old battery has a state of charge of 60% and the new battery has a state of charge of 90%, the BCM will recognize battery state of charge being 30% lower than it actually is. With the battery state of charge being perceived lower than it actually is causes shedding of loads earlier than is necessary. This also impacts the smart regenerative charge system by causing the battery to be maintained at a higher state of charge than perceived by the BCM, reducing fuel economy benefits.

I've had the battery replaced in my 2012 twice, less than 40k miles.
