Tar and chip, AGHHH!!!

Damn Penndot, we hit 5 miles of fresh tar and chip on a local road Monday. No signs warning us as they usually do. They were laying it down as we went by.
I HAD just one chip in my paint previous to this.
Now my front end has about 100 tiny specks in the paint. Too small to really see easily, but I know they are there and it pisses me off! Spent last night with a bottle of touch up paint filling them in.
Pretty much picked up 5 years of damage in 15 minutes.
For those of you who haven't experienced this, it involves laying hot tar down then laying stone chips on it. Sometimes they do just strips, this time they did the entire road. You can hear the chips bouncing off the undercarriage.
Its insane, and I'm pissed at myself for not turning around.

I know what you are talking about. They are doing it to all the main roads around me to. We fly no warning one day and drive through about 10 miles of it. Dust and rocks were going everywhere.

What's the purpose of doing that? Better grip?

It allows the city to hold off on black topping the road for another 2 years.

Basically they grind on the road, lay down the tar, then lay down the chips and driving over it allows it to be pushed into the tar. Keeping it in place.

The ironic part is I drive a good bit on dirt back roads, but I watch for debris and watch my speed. But this stuff was flying up from oncoming traffic and the work site itself.
The silver lining is a few more marks on my paint and I can quit babying it and start running the back roads fast as I enjoyed in my ZX3.

Around here they only do the tar and stone chips on rural roads

Agree they are annoying when 'fresh'.

In town they use a cheap mix of stones IN tar for potholes. I do not understand why they bother, as the effort only last a few weeks!
