I ran into a hitch (MK3)

Well, isn't today just the greatest. I was following my boss to one of our facilities and we were coming to a stop and my drink fell over. As I was going to pick it up I, I neglected to press on the brakes hard enough and ran into his trailer hitch at about 5mph. Feel free to call me an idiot.

Damage doesn't look too bad. I'll definitely need a new grill and a new license plate. There's a tiny crack in the bumper that looks like it could be repaired with a fiber glass repair kit, but need a second opinion.

I'll take a picture of what it looks like behind the grill when I get home.

Don't know what to do. Its either try and fix/rig the plastic piece that holds the grille or get a whole new front bumper.

What really bugs me is the idiot engineers who thought it was a great idea to have the flimsy piece of plastic that holds the grille be part of the bumper, so if you break it then you have to get a new bumper. I know all companies design their cars like this. It just irritates me.

I think your best bet is to just claim it on your insurance. I assume that with it being so new you have full coverage. A slight rate increase is less expensive than buying and painting all new pieces.

Not going to do that. Deductible is $1,000.

I like the irony of your name (leavingmarks) in that case

IMO, don't claim the insurance for a small thing like this (<2000$) all claims are looked at when it's time to shop for a new one...

Are you planned to DIY or send to shop?

It probably depends how thorough you want to be as to what is replaced.

Looks like you got him as bad as he got you. I can understand not wanting to file a claim. I filed a $1000 claim many years ago and my rate increased by well over $1000 over the course of the next 4 years or however long they were able to surcharge you back then.

Straighten the plate put it back on and say **** it. Really doesn't seem that noticeable in the photos.

Probably going to DIY it. Thought about it and I'll probably get a fiber glass repair kit to fix the crack, and then apply some touch up paint. Me and my father are going to somehow remount the plastic but that the grill mounts to since 3/4 tabs broke off. Then I'll either order a replacement grille or get one of those honey comb looking ones.

Yeah I don't think I'll replace a few of the plastic pieces back there since they're not visible and are only barely cracked. Also going to get a new license plate.

It's kinda funny cause the only think I did to his truck was take some rust off of his trailer hitch.

Lesson learned = Just let the drink spill? Haha
