Coolant level slightly below minimum

I was filling my windshield washer fluid, and noticed the engine coolant level is slightly below the minimum line.

I don't know how long its been like that, because I don't think I ever checked.

Should I leave it as is? or add more coolant?

How much is "slightly"?

If you're talking about 1/8", it's too close to OK to worry about. Appreciably low when checked cold, you'd want to add. Low when hot - definitely need to add.

Yeah its not very low at all, around the purple line below (Image is not mine)

I guess I will leave it for now, and see if it gets lower. So I shouldn't bother adding more?

Gnat's Whisker low isn't a worry, I'd add for sure if it was at the pictured level.

Cold weather alone could take a cold reading from the minimum line cold to slightly below it.

I would just top it up with a little water or coolant and keep an eye that it doesn't drop again.

Take it in and have the dealer look at it. My initial trip was documented and they just filled it at 20k miles. It was low again at 30k miles and they discovered the water pump was bad and needed to be replaced.

Its not in warranty, so it would be an expensive look. And my experience with the service department is at-least a 1 week wait before they even look at the car

If a car is still under warranty, then I would have it checked. If you don't want to pay for out of warranty diagnostics, peruse the forum and you will find there are several reports of coolant level staying slightly below the minimum line (despite multiple top ups) in the Degas bottle even in cars with no apparent leaks. Some MK3s seem to do this. Before you spend money on diagnostics, mark a new line on the bottle at the current level. If the coolant level never drops any further, you probably do not have a leak.

I want to get it filled to the max line, where is the best place to get OEM coolant? Or does any coolant work? Or should I add water?

I would start to take a look where it leaks the most based on complains here.

Check the bottom of the radiator first.

It's free :)
