Sync Screen Not Working

Cross posting this as this forum gets more traffic:
Have a '13 Focus Titanium with Sync. Yesterday the screen backlight quit working and the screen stopped responding to touch -- I can still see the stuff on the screen and I can still control everything from steering wheel/voice/interface controls.

I pulled fuse #67 and let the car do it's thing. That reset the system, but did not fix my issues. Pulled #79, fuse looks good, but I did not do the same procedure as you would for the reset of sync. Didn't think I would need to as it's not a computer reset, it's just a fuse for control of the lighting functions. I believe.

Ford wants $115 to just look at it, calling it a "Nav Update", which is BS in my opinion. Not sure if the advisor I spoke with misunderstood me or was just an idiot, when I corrected him on it not being a nav update, he said that's just what they call it.

Any ideas?

Pulled both fuses associated with sync. Both of them test out, have good resistance and aren't bad.

Last ditch effort was pulling the negative terminal on the battery and letting it sit for 20 minutes, that didn't change a thing.

Any ideas before I take it to the dealer and get ripped off for something stupid? I would love to avoid the dealer at all costs as most of the ford service advisors I've worked/spoke with are shady as all get out and know as much about their cars as I know about magic.

Or is there a possibility this would somehow be covered by warranty? Car is at 46k miles.

EDIT: Just got off the phone with ford customer service. Not only is it still covered under warranty, which the service advisor I spoke with told me it wasn't, but the lady I spoke with (who was awesome!) told me she think it's the APIM given the diagnosing I've already done and that it should be replaced no questions under warranty. We shall see what happens when I get to Indy. *crosses fingers*

Per FSA 12M02 the sync system on MFT equipped cars is covered to 5 years and unlimited mileage. Although that does specifically mention only the APIM, and not the display screen so I'm not 100% certain where that leaves you.

From my conversation with the customer service rep, it seems like it's the APIM that is causing the issue here.

Either way, I'm not working with a service advisor, or a dealership that employs a service advisor like him, that takes the info I gave him and tells me that he'll get me setup for a Nav System Update.

Also, lol @ Ford for charging $115 for a Sync update that is free online and takes 10 minutes to do.
