My '07 ZX3 hatch had this too. It's been a Focus feature since Gen1, I believe.

If you have a sedan you can swap out the bottom seats from a hatch. The mounting holes are there and you have to do is tap them and gets bolts to bolt them down.

My '13 SE with 201A package had the flip-front bottom; my '15 SE EcoBoost does not, even though it has a "sport" package. No middle arm rest, either. I was disappointed with this when I brought it home, tugging at the bottom to no avail. I like the idea of a hack to install the hinge brackets.

What's the construction of that removable seat base?

The old flip single ones had a metal base to them. From the pic with the base removed I'm guessing that might not be the case.

The removable seat on my 2015 SE with sport package is just a giant piece of foam. Kinda cheap feeling, but I guess that could come in handy if I should need to fit it in a tight place.

Thanks!

The styrofoam padding I saw underneath in the picture made that look likely, there for shaping the seat base and padding for your butt in a collision as it slides forwards.
