Engine knock? And what does phone pairing have to do with reliability? They have more electronics gripes than mechanical. My 2012 manual has been worry free reliable for 55,000 miles.

They call it the list of least reliable new cars but then say some cars included in the survey had been on the road for 3 years. So must be some 2012 / 2013 Foci and Fiestas in there that may not have had the latest DCT fixes.

Once again Consumer Reports is skewing data.... Calling it a new car list but essentially not giving credit for all the fixes that went in to the 2015 refresh.

Notice the Acura TLX is getting dinged for transmission performance - with ZF's conventional 9-speed auto.

Hard to tell which one is troublesome, but the 4 cylinder TLXs come with a DCT; only the V6s have a conventional automatic. But just as a guess I'd bet the DCT is the problem.

The 3 years on the road vs new is confusing. The TLX was a totally new model in 2015 iirc.

Yeah, not sure what they're talking about engine knock wise that's out of left field. Having had a DCT I can sympathize, I know the transmission has its apologists and even mine was nice when it worked or in optimal environments, but the DCT has overall been an unmitigated disaster in my opinion and Ford should be mortified its two world cars are on this list and for largely sustainable reasons.

I only wish I'd been patient and waited for or ordered a then unavailable locally manual car....I'm at the same place with this manual car I was with the DCT and it's been an excellent experience, and I'd have it paid off it I'd gotten it in 2012.

Well, direct injection can be noisy and if they are mistaking that for engine knock, then..... well, I'm not at all surprised. These lists are made by idiots.

The Nissan Pathfinder and Dodge Challenger were genuinely concerning as far as reliability goes, but every other car on that list was just listed for being noisy or having infotainment issues.

We are in good company. CR ripped Tesla a new one.

First, they gave it their highest marks ever:
https://www.yahoo.com/autos/tesla-mo...707921452.html

Then, they removed it from their recommended list:
https://www.yahoo.com/autos/teslas-r...170529595.html

And if it makes you feel any better, Toyota just recalled 6.5 million of their crap cars:

Here are the reliability rankings by brand:

That graph is excellent. Look at the wide range Ford has. If they can move everything toward the upper end of their scale (ditch the DCT?), they will be killing the US-branded competition, Buick being the exception.

I'm a bit surprised by where Acura, Mercedes, Infiniti and Cadillac are on the graph.

Look at the drivetrain issues for the Jeep Cherokee. (for one interesting comparison)

"std. automatic" with the same kind of problem listing.

Yup, one downfall of this type listing is totaling complaints without any weighting for how "serious" they might be. As is, it's an annoyance level comparison. Useful to an extent, but more research is needed for decent decision making.
