Oil on top of valve cover? Any ideas where it came from?

I have noticed oil on the top of the engine by the spark plug connections. This started by the passenger side plug and has slowly made its way towards the drivers side.
I was at the dealer the other day for a different issue and asked them to look it it. they game me an explanation of who ever did the oil change must have spilled oil. I told them i do the oil changes and no oil has been spilled. Then i was told maybe the oil cap wasn't tightened. This service advisor made no sense to me so i asked for my keys and came home..

Anyone have any ideas of what this could be and where it could be coming from?

Here are the pics from this morning.

Spray your valve cover with some brake cleaner and try to find out where it's leaking from.

I have the same thing happen to me. I'm interested to see what you find out. I have the dealer do my oil change so I've always assumed they are just messy but maybe there is a leak? i'll keep an eye on mine. I clean my engine bay every few months and my oil is always full so I've never worried to much about it.

I thought it might be the valve cover gasket but I don't know how it would get on top of the engine like it does.

If its like the older style motors, then it could be the gaskets (O-rings) from around the plugs.

Besides oil really shouldn't be there, at least on my motors,,,,,,, I hate leaky motors. I've resealed motors before.

If the newer motors run a couple of gaskets(O-rings) like the older style motors then it be leaking there.
