An Issue Ford can't figure out on my Focus

I've had my Focus for almost 7 months now and I love it. I've put almost 7k miles on it since I've bought it but I'm needing some help on trying to see if anyone else has had this problem so I might be able to help Ford figure out this weird problem I'm having with my Focus. Also Ford did replace the TCM (Transmission Control Module) in the car a month or so ago and they thought it would have fixed the problem but it didn't so I've decided to ask everyone here for any help they may be able to offer me. The problem is during the initial start of the vehicle the gear pattern on the cluster will either disappear or say sport mode is low gear and after a few key cycles the gear pattern fixes itself and it may not return for a few miles or a few hundred miles just depends. So with that Ford is confused on what is going on and it's starting to worry me. Also I have taken it two Ford dealerships and neither has been able to figure the issue out. Also the problem started right around 47k miles and has been slowly getting more frequent. I'll post the pics below showing the issue I'm asking about. Thanks.

Same thing happens sporadically on my '14 Ti. The "L" will sometimes appear after shutting off the car to run into a store, or some such errand. The "L" does not appear to disrupt the tranny. For example I can still "select shift", but the gear numbers do NOT appear on the display.

When I shut the car off and restart it, Viola ! The "S" is back.

As the car's performance is not affected, I am assuming that this is a faulty sensor, or similar. When I'm called to bring the car in for the new clutches (I'm on waiting list), I will mention it to the tech.

BTW...this same issue has been discussed in another thread.

FWIW, here is the other thread on this subject:

No "S" mode, "L" instead, 2014 SE w/SelectShift

My car doesn't qualify for new clutches yet. It passes the shudder test. When they replaced the TCM and did the relearn it only had 150 shudders per RPM so no new clutches. I was reading the other post and I think I will have them look at software problem or glitch.

So should I not worry about it or should I try to give another Ford dealership a try? I don't want to start to have any electrical problems.

Joshua, speaking for myself I'm not sure how to respond to your question.

Here's another goblin for you to consider-- this one lives in The button that opens and closes my sunroof. Every so often when I stop the car, put it in park, hit the button to close the sunroof it closes, but then it opens right back up. I press the button again and once again it closes, and opens right back up. Close, open. Close, open. Close, open.

So what I have to do is while it is closing hit the button again, it stops where ever it is in the process and then when I hit the button to close it everything is back to normal. And then for many days, or many weeks the sunroof will function perfectly.

And truthfully, I have just learned to live with it, if it simply continues this once in awhile pattern.

Hi guys,

I'll be happy to check out some additional assistance. Getting a second opinion's often a good choice, too, JoshuaCurrie.

When you two have an appointment set up, please send me your VIN, mileage, best daytime phone number, full name, and dealer name/location.

Meagan
