'No Key Detected' Focus SE

Hi,

Recently been having an intermittent issue on my 2012 Focus SE where I will put the key in, turn it, and while all of the accessories will come on (radio, displays, windows and wipers work, etc), the car will not turn and I get a 'No Key Detected' error on the screen.

This has happened three times, and each time the car will not work for about 20 minutes, and then fix itself and startup. The battery is fine (per multimeter) and each time there were no other interference issues in the car that might prevent the chip from being detected.

Has anyone else had this issue? In talking to Ford service all they think it could be is the keyfob battery, but I have changed that recently.

Did you put the battery in the fob correctly?

Yes if you changed the battery.. It is the battery. New does not always mean 'perfect'..
Most batteries are now made in far away countries with not so great quality control.
Buy a new battery... someplace else than where you bought the last 'new' one...

Battery would affect fob functions, shouldn't affect key chip detection on the versions like this with an actual key.

Does the problem exist with more than one key?

Both batteries are new, and it happens with both keys. Since the buttons work on the key, I assume they were installed correctly. I cleaned out the inside of the keys yesterday, I will see if that helps, but once again this is a very sporadic issue.

I have seen people say that cell phones can mess up the chip detection, but in both cases my phone was in the passenger seat, nowhere close to the key.

Happened again this morning, and I had both keys with me, with brand new batteries.

So I can confirm that a) It is not just one key, and b) it has nothing to do with the key batteries.

It's either a problem with the sensor that detects the presence of the chip in the key or defective transponders in the keys. Since the problem is with both keys, I'm guessing the problem is with the sensor.
