Unhappy Air distribution control problem in 2015 focus se sedan

I have a new 2015 Focus SE sedan. Everything works well except the air distribution control on the manual A/C. Air will come from the instrument panel or the footwell but not from both at the same time. According to the manual air can be distributed through any combination of the windshield, instrument panel, and footwell vents. I called Ford customer service and was called back stating that Ford engineers have said this is characteristic of the A/C system and will not be fixed. I think this is a defect that needs to be fixed.
Am I the only one who has noticed this problem?

Moved to "MK3 Focus". Hopefully someone here can help you with your problem. I am not sure how the layout is for the 2012+ Focus, so I am of no help. Good luck!

Your best option is to take it to your dealer and show them the issue. Assuming you're not accidentally pressing both buttons when you switch, that is not a problem you should be seeing.

When you select "Max A/C", the air comes only through the dash vents; when you select recirculate, you are prevented from using the windshield vent. Otherwise, you should be able to use any vents you want.

It could be that it needs to be reprogrammed, or it could be a mechanical issue.

I already had it to the dealer. The technician showed me that the same issue was evident in another 2015 Focus. I called Ford customer service and was given a case number. A week later I was called back by a regional customer service person and informed that the lack of bi-level air distribution was a "characteristic" of the 2015 Focus A/C system. This contradicts the Focus manual as I stated. They said since this was a characteristic of the system there would be no fix.

Try pushing both buttons the one that shows a picture of the air towards your face and the button with the picture of the air towards your feet
The yellow LED's will light up when you activate those buttons

or just in case your climate controls look like this one

Good afternoon eileenjkb,

I'm Todd, and will be helping Meagan out on the forum for a short while. I'm going to do some further digging; please send me a PM with your full name and case number.

Thank you!

Todd

I did send a PM. The reply was the same that I have gotten from Ford customer service. Basically that, in spite of the manual stating otherwise, no bi-level air distribution is an "operating characteristic " of the 2015 Focus. I guess my only hope of getting this problem corrected is if other owners realize the problem and complain to Ford.

I guess they changed that in the 2015s. My 2012 Ti allows for floor and vents to be running at the same time. I have the auto climate control, but can force both to be on at the same time. That said, the air flow is MUCH weaker when both are open.

I had a 2014 Focus before I traded for the 2015. The bi-level air worked very well in the 2014.

The OP is more than likely talking about the Manual electronic climate control which from 2012-2014 could not do more than floor and defrost, or floor and vent together vs the dual zone system that could run through all three tiers of vents (defrost+vent+floor) at once.
