Felt tray under engine

I have read about this a plenty of times on here but I'll never have seen the answer is am looking for. A piece of my tray about a foot long got ripped and was dragging the ground. I went to the dealer who sent me to the quickchange oil division and the guy just simply cut it off. Then said about 75% of the ones he see's don't have the tray anyways and he would be happy to take it off for free .
So here's my question finally. I something happens that is not even related to that tray being gone would they turn my down on a warranty claim. I can understand maybe a rock busting the oil pan and the tray missing, then I might get behind that. But I'm talking something internal busting that the tray had nothing to do with and them turning me down because the car was modified or oem equipment was removed.
I know that was a long winded question but give me time. I'm new to all this.

Tray doesn't have any function that would relate to warranty on other parts.

Aerodynamics only.

Road hazard/hitting something isn't covered anyways.

I just with they'd have used something stronger and better mounting hardware. The whole thing just seems flimsy.

I'd guess it's that way for a couple reasons.

Noise deadening, both for not reflecting engine sound & not creating noise when water splashes on it from the road.

Tear off without other damage if it DOES get hit/caught on something. Solid pans can be a real PITA to install/remove with the slightest damage, and mounting areas can easily be damaged if not VERY much stronger than the pan (adding a lot to weight).
