Post How Loud is your Focus - Survey!

Hi all! I want to see how loud the average Focus is to determine if I should try to make mine any quieter. What I mean by "loud" is road noise, which is typically a humming noise that occurs during highway speeds (55-75mph).

How to participate in the survey: download a sound measuring app like Sound Meter for Android or Decibel 10th for iPhone. While driving at highway speeds of 55-75 mph, carefully and safely (don't wreck because of me!) open the app, turn off your stereo, roll up your windows, tell the kids to be quiet, and determine what your average sound level is in decibels (dB). Don't want to mess with it while driving? Get a friend or spouse to help!

This is an example of my road noise:

Reply to this post and state whether you have a sedan or hatchback, and what your average sound level was.

I will update this first post with all of the replies:

Member - Body Style - Sound level (dB)

Gravix202 - Hatch - 69 dB
skiboarder119 - Hatch - 70 dB
focus112 - 2002 Sedan - 82 dB

Thank you! And again, drive safe!

No offense but this test will not yield any meaningful results. There are too many variables. Tire brand and size as well as how much wear is on the tires and any cupping present. Smooth paved roads vs. textured asphalt roads etc.

I understand the variables, and I still think the results will be interesting. I'm curious about the range of noise that a single model of car can produce. The one that will cause the most issues with the test though are the different roads that everyone will drive on. 55 on a dirt road is going to make some noise!

I am too lazy to do the work.
A simple poll on what folks think would do.
20 to 1 I bet very few ever do the work the op asks for LOL

And yes the main 'noise' from my car IS the road/tire interface. It is clear when the road changed from cement to asphalt. A dull roar to sudden silence!

I have a hatchback.
Manual trans.
Quiet cooper rs3a tires almost new
Concrete road surface, very few bumps/pot holes
Avg 70dB

Also note that I then made my own Ferrari 458 exhaust noise with my mouth and it stayed right at 70dB.

It was 30 in a parking lot.
