Why so much stealing going on at repair places...

Recently had my less than 6 month old Focus in for service where I bought my car. And upon opening my glove box noticed that a small amount of cash was missing. I keep some in there for unexpected needs/tolls etc. So about $8 or 9 was missing.

This has happened to me almost every time I have forgotten to remove said cash at every repair place...I usually remember to remove it. Do repair guys get paid so little that stealing a paltry $8 helps them somehow? Never goods, just cash/coin. I have always lived in good areas over my life and simply cannot understand it. I didnt bother to make a stink as it was not worth the time and effort. This is a HUGE Maryland dealership. I also had some paint work done due to a factory defect so I dont know if it was the bodyshop which is separate from the Dealer as well.

From what I can tell they both did very good work otherwise and the people there SEEM to be nice and friendly... Also so many people there seem to interact with your car in some way who knows where it went missing... I also dont recall using it myself as I just replenished it last week.

Anyway just venting, you cant trust anyone anymore.

Annoying as hell.

I'd raise a fuss. They might give you free service next time.

Yeah, I know but I was ill with a terrible cough and felt like crap already when I picked the car up. Just wanted to get home and climb back into bed. It wont get me "free service" as I already get the free Ford lube service as a dealership perk.

I agree, but it was there for 2 days and at least 5 people touched the car. I saw 3 while I was there... The service advisor, the guy who moved my car cause he thought I was there for a lube job and then the guy who drove it to the body shop, plus whoever worked on it at the body shop and whoever drove it back. Then the guy who fetched it when I picked it up. I doubt they could accuse anyone effectively.

Ya but my guess is you are not the only person that this is happening to. Eventually the person will slip up and get caught. I would be raising hell if money was taken from my car.

Yeah, I have left a couple dollars in the back seat before or on the console or something folded up, take a picture of it, then take it to get work done on it. Just for kicks and giggles.

No one has snatched it yet. Figure if someone does take it, it will save someone else down the road since they know its a problem.

8 bucks is not so little change... you can get a very nice lunch with that.

Take pictures next time.

It seems like a stupid thing to do (taking it). Why risk your job over a few dollars? I have had a stereo stolen while at a shop, insurance paid for it. I usually take anything of value out while I leave it in for service. My old car had some tools, a compressor in the trunk for emergencies. Since the Focus is new I don't feel like I need them. Many times it's unlocked in the lot when I pick it up.
