Rock chip issues after a few weeks of owning black MK3 Focus

I keep getting lots and lots of little "dings" (raised white bumps from what looks like impacts in the front bumper). I owned a Corolla for 7 years, also black, and I didn't get any of those that I remember so I don't know why I am getting them after only a few weeks on the Focus driving pretty much the same routes. I think the front bumper was composed differently; on the Corolla I think the entire bumper was black, and the clear coat much thicker than my Focus's, thus when rocks or whatever hit them if they did manage to make it through the really thick clear coat there was just more black to show. On my Focus the clear coat seems thinner and instead of all of it being made with black material (fiberglass?) it is painted with a layer of thin black then white under that.

It's not awful now, but at the rate they are multiplying on my Focus in a year it will look bad. I am contemplating getting a black car detailer, which may help decrease the appearance of them.

How much does clearbra cost? Should I put I repair the rock dings on there currently before putting one over them?

Cost depends on where you go. You should be able to find a reseller/installer in your area by searching Google. I would definitely touch up any chips before you have it installed though. Clear bras actually work best on black cars because they are pretty much impossible to see on black and any discoloration of the film is unnoticeable.

Honestly you're going to find that pretty much any paint on any recent car probably isn't up to par with what you're used to. All the water-based paint they use isn't anywhere near as tough as the older stuff.

Some people said they include touch up repairs in the cost/process. That would be ideal.

The cons here make me want to reconsider on the clear bra.

The yellowing issue won't be a problem on black because you won't see a difference. My friend has had a clear bra on his car for the past five years and it still looks good. I guess it comes down to whether or not you want to pay for clear bra protection or pay for getting your bumper repainted at some point.
