Ford to extend warranty on DCT Clutch/Seals to 7 years/100,000 mi

Stumbled across this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vtRJ26zMdA on reddit.

Its good news no doubt. I JUST had my car in for transmission complaints on Monday. They gave it back same day saying it was ok and they updated the PCM. Its still chattering like crazy and shuddering though. Even pulling out of the dealer it was doing it. If they are extending, why not just go ahead and REPLACE the damn clutch pack. /rant

Ask them to show you the RPM results then, it's part of the TSB to check the transmission. Print out the TSB and bring it in and worse case scenario simply tell them you are going to another dealer, will never use them again and will recommend others to avoid them. Transmission shudder is a very real, clear and unacceptable issue and they need to fix it for you!

That said, I'm glad to hear the warranty has been extended! I was lucky to find an awesome dealer who fixed mine, parts in stocks, free loaner but in case it happens again I'm glad to know it will be taken care of!

I put together this synopsis with full details of the warranty extension:

14M01 - TRANSMISSION CLUTCH SHUDDER / TRANSMISSION INPUT SHAFT SEAL WARRANTY EXTENSION

This applies to 2012-2014 Ford Focus equipped with the DPS6 transmission built at the Michigan plant between August 1, 2010 and June 15, 2013

* Ford is extending the warranty (fully transferable) on the DPS6 transmission input shaft seal, clutch assembly, and firmware updates to 7 years/100,000 miles. This takes effect after expiration of your 5 year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty.

* If you already have more than 100,000 miles on your car, they are still extending your warranty until January 31, 2015.

* There is a whole new clutch coming out: Revision "F" The clutch is still made by Luk.

* There is a new input shaft seal, part number identifier changes from C to D.

* As of July 21, there is an all new software flash.

* Here is the really good news (according to Brian) If you paid out of pocket for repairs on your DPS6 transmission input shaft seal or clutch assembly because your car was already out of warranty, Ford is going to reimburse you.

* There is a new technical service bulletin released for the DPS6 transmission: TSB 14-0131

* Ford will be sending owners a letter with details.

So, am I reading right? 7 years after 5 years, that's a total of 12 years or 160,000mi?

I'm thinking 2 years / 40k miles additional. So you start with 5 / 60, Ford now makes it 7 / 100. And of course the 5 / 60 is the complete drive train right? But the 7 / 100 is only the seals and clutch assembly.

7 years total (from original purchase date) or 100,000 miles whichever comes first. The only exception is if your car already has over 100,000 miles, they are still extending the warranty until January 31, 2015. Remember this warranty extension is only for the transmission input shaft seal, clutch and software updates. It does not extend the warranty on the transmission or engine. Those components are covered by the original factory powertrain warranty that still expires at 5 years/60,000 miles.

Best guess - they are not 100% confident they have it dialed in yet.
