I drive a 2013, it's not my DD so I only have 900km, I'm waiting to reach the 1,600km mark at the odo (1,000mi) for the first oil change, after that, every 10,000km as the Owner's Manual says...

BTW
For the first oil change you should DIY just to make sure the oil change is done, I don't trust to the Dealer 'cause at 900km the oil looks like brand new (clear no dark).... you got my point?

I did mine at 1500 miles then every 5-6000 miles using mobil 1, I change it when my mileage drops below 38 mpg on 2 consecutive tanks of gas, its all personal preference on when to change it you can go 10,000 miles without any problems. check this thread out My Oil Change Interval Debate Rant lots of opinions

Change it yourself if you can. It's not that hard:

http://www.carcarekiosk.com/video/20...and_oil_filter

Use a low volatility synthetic oil. Do not exceed the manufacturer's oil change interval and do not wait for the OLM to come on. First oil change between 1000 and 3000 miles. After that, follow Ford's schedule. Factory fill is Motorcraft synthetic blend but I highly advise a low NOACK pure synthetic from Group IV or V base stock not only for their lubricating qualities but to help minimize carbon deposits on the intake valves.

Why you should run synthetic oil in your Ford Focus

+10000!

When the oil life monitor comes on, or fuel mileage has dropped, or performance has changed, or any other 'indicator' other than a used oil analysis has been used; then that means the oil has already FAILED and is not protecting your engine as well as it's supposed to! It should've been changed BEFORE that!

Great suggestions on the oil, too! I'll be running Amsoil after the initial oil change in mine.

Just as an FYI; the oil light on the dash isn't an indicator of 'bad oil' or 'dirty oil', it's an indicator of extremely low oil pressure; which usually means a very serious mechanical problem or you are very low on oil. It has nothing to do with the quality of the oil that's in the engine. There could be some sheared-out-of-grade, dirty oil doing very little to protect your engine from wear inside your machine but the oil light will still be off because it's maintaining pressure.

I had the dealer do my first, as it was free, at 5k miles. I change it now myself every 5k miles with Mobil1 Synthetic.

Just did it last night as a matter of fact. Very easy process.

I always do my own oil changes, mostly with Mobil-1 (sometimes Royal Purple or Amsoil ). I had the dealer do the very first one (again for free) on my last three cars then I took it from there...
