American muscle shift knob and boot adapter

Here's my American muscle shift knob on my '13 Focus. I ran a die down the shift lever to get the boot adapter as low as possible then lubed the adapter with a tiny bit silicone spray and pushed it into the boot as far a possible without tearing it. I used a piece of stainless steel lacing wire and wrapped it around the boot and twisted it just tight enough to hold it in place. The knob is screwed almost all the way on the shifter, then tightened it all up, snapped down the trim. It's about the same height as stock and feels good when shifting, can almost feel the gears "click" into place.

That does look really nice. I've debated getting one for my car because I got so used to my Hurst shifter in my Mustang GT.

I bought the same knob but am struggling to figure out how you were able to slip the bottom "donut" part of the boot adapter. Even with lubricated spray the boot opening is way smaller than the diameter of the bottom of the adapter. Could you run me through how you were able to make that work? Thanks!
