I've had the focus for a year and a half and put on 30k. I drive the crap out of this car and love it! A month ago i had a little incident with my focus and the engine blew(completely blew out one main bearing and damaged the rest pretty bad.). Ya i dont think I have hear anyone else doing the main bearing but it did! After taking off a few of my mods, and replacing my shredded tires for the stock ones, i brought it to Ford. And guess what, Ford actually warrantied my whole engine! To put icing on the cake, instead of just giving me a refurbished long block (what Ford usually does), they gave me a brand new short block and cylinder head! Yeah that's right a whole brand spanking new engine! I went from 30k to 0 miles on my engine and its like christmas. It took literally a month to get done and after moving the estimated finish time 6 times over a week and a half, i finally got it back today. I couldn't be happier!!! (Oh and ford tried to void my warranty over my stickers .... like WTF)

Just like anyone who's ever bragged about getting out of a speeding ticket or how they raced some Civic ricer and won on the street. Why should I even treat my car well if I know I can just beat it up and get my engine replaced?

This does not surprise me. I'd love to have my clutch inspected. Although, the OP said he wasn't easy on this car.

I was wondering the same thing... maybe because his car is already fixed and returned? But I'm sure if Ford got wind of this, it could be corrected in a hot second.

This is one of those things you put in a shoe box under your bed and never open that box again - maybe bury it in the back yard. Don't put it on the internet for everyone to see!

Wow a lot of haters this morning. This was more a "WHOO Ford was awesome enough to give me a new engine", NOT "I screwed over Ford". Where did i say i didnt take car of my car. Fluids are changed constantly, w/ high grade oil every 3k on the dot and premium gas. I was implying i drive alot 30k in about a year and a half, and most of it is for pleasure. (its common for me to go on a drive and empty my whole tank ~300mi) There was no sign of abuse on the engine and no over rev codes. Ford found absolutely nothing that would show otherwise. If i didn't over rev how in the world did i break my main bearings... Ford is tight with their warranty, don't you think they would void me if they found a reason too, and the clutch is clearly not way out side of norms or they would have voided me on that. They tried to void me on my stickers clearly they couldn't find anything i did wrong.

Well I for one will apologize for my skepticism. Your original post just sounded really shady the way you worded it. I think people may have misinterpreted.

Yes i see and understand, but benefit of the doubt would have been nice, not just jumping to conclusions, before asking questions. I drive the crap out of it (30k in a little over a year is about 1600 a month, that is alot imo). I also drive to the mountains all the time in the winter, my tires are shredder from the cable usage and spirited driving. And tires are the first thing they look at when they warranty. With taking off mods , a CAI can void your engine, i was just playing safe. Also took off the short throw bracket, idk why i just did.

^ What he said.

Did you ever have an oil analysis done on the engine before it "blew"?

Yeah i edited it to clear everything up, people misunderstood so i corrected it. short story.. Ive been moving going back and fourth 400 miles ever few weeks and then coming back the next day. I just got back and a few days after i made u-turn(did even hit the throttle that hard), and thought i heard a pop noise, but i didn't know if it was the exhaust or not. I didn't notice anything for like 10 min. Then i started to go at a stoplight from a dead stop, and started to hear a small rattle. When i shifted to second i didn't hear anything, and got home and with no more rattle. I brought it by my buddies shop and couldn't reproduce the rattle, so i wasn't sure what it was, thought it might have been the motor mount. The next day i was on the toll road, going up a hill and had to shift to fourth and then i heard it again but louder. I went strait back to the shop and on the way it kept getting worse. They thought it was a valve so i took off the CAI, and shifter bracket, and tires. then took it to ford.

Yup thats exactly what I heard on my old car (but a taurus) a bunch of clicking noises, it in fact was a blown engine... I drove maybe 30 to 40 miles to get home going 20 mph on a blown engine... Glad your getting it fixed though.

Haha it's called zoom zoom boom on Mazda forums people blow their shit up all the time and put it back to stock, and go get a new motor. If a factory turbo engine cant hold 18psi on a tiny ko4 turbo we deserve new blocks.
Although I know you are not factory turbo, this couldmbensaid for the new st guys

I guessing a lot of people drive their mk3 hard it seems like they like to be and if you haven't your missing out and quite a swell car. Oh well haters are gunna hate. Don't be jealous because you can't get a new engine. Gratz brother man

Yes, I too beat the piss out of my stock (lol at your "intake" and "mods") domestic econobox like a boy racer, then defraud Ford on a warranty claim and post to the community expecting praise. Yes, you certainly did stick it to the man GR34TWHI73N0RTH all while being the coolest kid on the block, I'm sure. All of us are just 'hating' on you because we're jealous we don't get a new engine or have some crappy looking white wheels.

I'm glad the boys in blue stood up on there word and fixed your car like they should after all it's not like you ran it at 6500 rpm in 5th gear for 500 miles non stop.

I would just like to know what they said was the cause so I can keep a watch out on mine. The dealer changes the oil rotate tires and car wash every 5,000 miles free package even when that is up there still as cheap as anywhere else.
Just turned 46,000 only thing done was strut caps and clutch pack due to slipping not shutter never had that until update.

When I worked for a dealer we had a lady drive her car from New York to Florida came in engine light on and knocking checked oil a ball of goo on tip never changed oil in 39,000 miles yet service manger would do it under warranty if she could show just three oil change receipts so I rebuilt it for 1600.00 she could have gotten a used one cheaper.

Changing the shredded tires for the stock ones makes one think multiple hole shots or some autocross or even drifting. All the parts you removed were to increase output. You can't tell me you didn't use it in a way unintended for street use on more than one occasion. I know I would have as well as anyone else here. But just because you did abuse it doesn't mean it didn't have a defective part you may have just found it sooner.

mp223:

I wrote the whole story how it happened on like page 4 again read the whole thread please , i explained everything and your just skipping over and reading what you want to. Again, there were no over rev codes (never red lined, and our car has a rev limiter anyways i was told it should cut out at 7k), shredded tires from salted mountain roads with cables (they tend to kill your tire life + crappy so cal roads = bad tires). Also my oil is changed every 3k with full synthetic (way under recommended with way higher quality oil then recommended) Your clearly not reading now go find another thread; Your not benefiting the conversation. You came in insulting my car (my crappy white wheels remember? guess what buddy until you pay my car bill S.T.F.U) now go away, you have 33 post go find somewhere else to boost your post count.

Yes i do drive spirited so i probably exacerbated preexisting problem, that is what my hypothesis is at least. The main bearing breaking only is slightly suspicious, if it was due to abuse i would think i would have broken a piston too or at least something else then just a bearing(and then the others when the first failed).

Ok so the main bearing spun w/ so revs, the rod bearings usallay go first. Look at what takes out 23's= low on oil. Yeah, I don't like the bearing setup on the D-tech/mzr motors w/ no rod or main tangs. I also don't like the press fit for the cams & crank. I guess there setup for production. Just to say, I'd run Mobil1 oil in it.
