A/C Fan Issue

I have a 2012 SEL with 28,000 miles, and when the air conditioning comes on, there is this incredibly loud and annoying high-pitched whistling sound coming from the interior vents. This continues until the fans go into low operation once the automatic climate control system realizes the temperature is optimal.

It does it whether the A/C is on or off, although if I turn the A/C off, it quiets a little bit because the fans don't blow as hard. I have to say that it definitely corresponds to the speed of the fans.

I know the easy answer is to take it to the dealer, but I like being armed with information. My fear is that it's the blower motor. My old car (GM) went through eight of them, and it was part of the reason I moved to Ford. Maybe I'm just cursed?

Does anyone have an idea of what it could be? The A/C still works, it's just a moderate annoyance.

Thank you in advance for your replies!

- Scott

The same thing happens to me when one of the four vents is almost closed (cracked). Re-position the vents with the a/c on high until the noise goes away. Hope this helps!

Unfortunately, that's not it - I already tried. It is a similar noise to that, but vent closing/opening or placing them in different positions makes no difference.

could be leaves in the inlet pull cabin filter and vacuum inside might even be filter came apart or cracked blower fan.

I had the cabin filter changed at my 20,000 mile "The Works" service...and I get "The Works" done every 5,000 miles. I don't think that's it.

A cracked blower fan is a possibility, though.

Hi Scott,

It sounds like a trip to the dealership is in order. Send me a PM with your information and I'll get your regional customer service manager involved as well. Be sure to include your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name.

Thanks!

Crystal
