How well are the 16" OEM tires holding up?

Hello all, I'm in the market for a '12 5-speed hatch SE. I've got on picked out, but I'm a little worried because it appears to me the tires were replaced fairly early.

According to carfax, the tires were replaced at 25k miles with Kuhmo ASXs, and Im worried that they were replaced because the original owner was not so nice to them (and consequently the engine, brakes, and clutch). The car now has 37k miles and the tires on there now are exactly pristine either, though I didnt put a tire gauge on them to measure, they are probably about of the original depth.

So my question is, are the OEMs looking like they wear out for everyone so soon, or do I really have cause for concern? The carfax is showing tire rotation at 10.5k, and oil changes at 4, 10.5k, 14.1k, 18.8k, 23.6k, 25.8k (new tires and inspection at this time) and 33k miles all at the orginal Ford dealer from which it was purchased. Thoughts?

At 13,7xx miles I had 6/32 in rear, and 7/32 in front. Check if it was a fleet car, and see what condition the car is in. A lot of Mk3 Focus owners are older people who barely touch the gas pedal (from my experience in the area). They could have convinced them to replace them early, or they had a hole in one, and figured they might as well replace them all.

My 2012 SE sport pkg. needed new tires at 26,000. They had 2/32 left, one plug and it was winter. OEM tires frequently wear out fast. It sounds like your car was WELL MAINTAINED. I wouldn't worry.

Carfax says the type of ownership is "personal", so I assume it wasn't fleet. Doubt it was an older folk, they usually don't drive manuals (the ones I know anyway).

It doesn't look like there's much of a reason for concern. What I would touch on with the dealer is a warranty. I know the factory bumper to bumper warranty is up at 36k. I would try to negotiate an extension of that by at least 10k with the dealer or a year.

I just replaced my 16" SE sport package tires at 26,000 as well. They still had a little meat, but not enough for my liking and you could tell the sidewalls were starting to flex more in turns. They were also starting to crack all over the place.

OEM tires replaced at 30,000k should have replaced them earlier, I was running on the wear bars. The tires are not good

My driving is a mix of TONS of highway miles, and then AutoX on the same tires (with lots of squealing). So they get beat pretty hard. I put 25k a year on my car.

From my experience on my '05 ZX3, the Kumho ASX was a disappointment! I drive my car as though it is mine, not a rental, and is my DD. They lasted for 20K miles. Good adhesion dry, but terrible in the wet. Hydroplaned, and were very loud. Very happy when they wore out. FWIW, my 2.

Older drivers actually may LIKE driving a manual.
I am 63 and drive a manual and would not own an automatic.

I'm with Elizabeth on this one, I'm 55 and have never owned anything but manual transmissions. To me the young people don't seem to know how to drive manuals or want to. That's why there are so many more automatic vehicles sold than manuals. No data to back this up only my opinion.
