Strange sound from my car???

A month or so ago, after pulling into my son's driveway, the wife and I parked our 2012 Focus Ti, and went in for an over-night visit. Next morning, when we started to leave, I opened the car door to get in, and was greeted by the onset of an extremely loud, almost scary noise coming from (I presume) the car's audio. This was before sitting in the seat, starting the car or anything. It was extremely loud, and sounded much like the sound of a 40-gallon plastic garbage can being dragged across a rough concrete driveway. Not knowing what to do, I stood away from the car, because I didn't know if it might explode or something. Regaining some nerve, I attempted, with no success, to end the noise by turning the radio controls on/off, and up/down volume. Me, my wife, son, and daughter-in-law all stood dumb founded while the car continued to blast. After 60 seconds or so, it abruptly stopped.

As soon as we regained our wits, the wife and I got in the car, and made an uneventful trip home.

Then, last weekend, we went to visit our other son. We parked the car normally, set the brake, turned off the ignition, and exited the car. Before I could close the driver's door, the garbage-can-across-concrete noise started again. Neighbors came out of thier houses to see what was up. Dogs ran for cover. Little children cried. (Perhaps I exaggerate) Then, as before, after about 30 seconds, the noise ended. After our visit, we again made an uneventful trip home.

In neither instance had I been using the car's sound system, nor its nav system for that matter. Just a quiet trip across town.

Since I cannot get the car to reproduce the sound, I have not taken it to my dealer. However, I wonder if anyone on the forum might have any ideas?

Does the car have the latest MFT/Sync updates?

Your problem might be similar to one discussed in this thread:

Popping sound from speakers

A few have experienced this as well as me. Not sure what causes it but I believe there is a tsb out but whether or not it corrects it , I am not sure. It is MFT related.

its related to the Audio Digital signal processor aka the old "car amplifier" in the back of the car in the trunk (titanium) there is in fact an update for the Audio Digital Signal Processor that fix this problem, its been discussed on a bunch of different thread allready, just go visit your dealer and they will apply the tsb (update/fix) and this wont happen to you anymore

P.S: it is not related to the MFT system, its really is into the software of the Audio Digital Signal Processor (amplifier) of the Titanium model

Same issue with my 2012 titanium and has 57000 miles and was told it will cost money to be reprogramed since out of 36000 warranty. Bull shit not recommending anyone TO BUY a ford from Haley ford in Chester Virginia. Its just sad the only thing done to my car is oil changes and tires. shitty radio issues coming up down the road that is caused by FACTORY INSTALLED EQUIPMENT.

If I understand… If the volume is going up/down while driving, you probably have the speed-sensitive volume control "on".

Hi akcollins88,

When was your most recent visit to the dealer? I want to check into some options and will be happy to document your feedback about Haley Ford. Have you considered a second opinion from another dealer? You can use our Dealer Locate tool to find all the dealers in your area by ZIP.
